Finally back on the road again. Big Thanks to Captinfab
I just did a front cross member swap from a 1991 Suburban. Other thing in life got in the way and it took a lot longer than I hoped it would. But anyway it's done now. With a big thanks to Captainfab for not only the power steering bracket that he makes and sells that comes with excellent mounting instructions. But also other post he makes when replying to other member's questions. Reading one of his many post is how I figured out which master cylinder to use.
There are quite a few other members post that helped me along the way with completing this swap. I'm sorry I don't remember everyone's screen names from all the threads I read. So I will just say a big Thank you to everyone on this site. It's full of valuable information. My Truck is a 1966 C20 but now has a half ton suspension all around. I know some poeple cringe when they hear that. But it's my truck.lol Parts I used: 1991 Suburban R1500 complete loaded cross member- Installed all new Moog suspension parts. And all new brake components. Captainfab power steering box bracket Master cylinder ( Stock replacement for 1971-1972 C20 with disc / drums) FRONT: CPP 2.5" drop spindles McGaughy's 2"Lowering Coil Springs Monroe Monro-Matic Plus - Shock Part # 33033. (factory size I think I'm going to change them for a for shorter one.) REAR: CPP 4" Heavy duty lowering coil springs (rear) Monroe Monro-Matic Plus - Shock Part # 32207 CPP rear shock relocation kit Wheels Front and rear Wheel Vintiques 12 Series Smoothie 16x8 4" back spacing Wheel Vintiques Baby moon style cap Tires 235/65/R16 Before After

Thanks everyone for the compliments.
I bought the rear end off a member on here. I was told it originally was in a mid 1980's Chevy van. It's a 10 bolt.

Looks real nice. I kept mine a C20, but you're right, it's your truck, and it looks great. Kudos.

Did you refinish the wheels? I have silver painted 16x8" from Wheel Vintiques and they have tons of rust with only a few thousand miles on them and less than a year of use. Some day will strip and powdercoat them...

Re: Finally back on the road again. Big Thanks to Captinfab
I ordered mine from Summit racing. They came in gray primer. I scuffed them then reprimered and spray painted them with rust-oleum professional series spray paint.

Thanks for the compliments
Your truck is looking great. Is that master cylinder for the '67-'70 with drum brakes, or the '71-'72 with discs?

Re: Finally back on the road again. Big Thanks to Captinfab
The one I used was for a 1971 with disc drum brakes. Thanks for correcting me. I will post up the correct part number when I get home from work.

Re: Finally back on the road again. Big Thanks to Captinfab
All of my front ends parts when in very good shape on the old set up. So it handled really good before. And I was surprised at how well the 4 wheel drum brakes stopped also. But now with the modern power steering and disc brakes it's excellent. I wasn't sure what to expect with the ride quality with the lowering springs. But It rides great I'm very happy with the results.

Re: Finally back on the road again. Big Thanks to Captinfab
Very cool ride man. love the stance.
you did say "Truck is a 1966 C20 but now has a half ton suspension all around. I know some people cringe when they hear that".....I don't know why, there's really no up side to leaving it 3/4 ton if your going to add disk. I personally think you did a great job... And yes he's call the Captain for a good reason.....he's a wealth of knowledge on theses trucks. There are times i see someone ask a question and i will just sit back and wait till "el capitan" rings in with the answer....

Re: Finally back on the road again. Big Thanks to Captinfab
I guess that's why they stopped making 3/4 ton trucks in 1971?

Re: Finally back on the road again. Big Thanks to Captinfab
Thanks for posting your setup. You just convinced me that I don't need to do a 5" rear drop! 4" in the back looks great! I plan to do pretty much the exact same setup on my '63, but with a 73-87 front suspension. Your truck looks great!

Thanks for the compliments I appreciate it. I just picked up a 5.3L out of a 2005 Silverado yesterday. So now I will have a something to do this winter.
