Question wiring HEI

Is there any good wiring diagrams for changing over to a internal regulator alternator and HEI distributor ??? All I am finding is ones with original equipment..... Please help ...

Also, if you search the FAQ's there are a couple of good write ups. Try one by member "shifty" it has instructions and part # for the connector that go in the bulkhead fitting. You can run a new wire and have it terminate like stock. It's written for a six but is the same.

You can split the firewall block and remove the O/W/P wire and run a new 12 gauge red wire to the HEI distributor to the BATT terminal, see the above diagram in my first post. Also look at the thread that PanelDeland posted, by SHIFTY.


OR
You can do what most guys do and just run a 12 gauge red wire from the fuse panel where it says HEI UNFUSED out to the HEI distributor to the BATT terminal. It tells you that at the bottom of the diagram I posted in my first post.

Did you see the link I posted under the diagram in my first post and click on it?.......... It's in the quoted part of this post.

I'll try to find Shifty's thread for the conversion to HEI.

The charging system (alternator) is one circuit. The ignition system (HEI) is another circuit.

Don't confuse the two and don't try to change both circuits at the same time. Learn about one system and the changes you need to make and make sure it is fully functional before you move on.

Add a heavy enough hidden kill switch in the HEI wire is a good idea while you are at it.
