trade or modify

Hey guys,
so one of the big reasons I got my 68 is that my pops used to have a 72. The problem is, the more I look at my 68, 5he more I want a 72 hood and grill. I always loved the look of old blue thunder and I do love my truck engine and body wise and I havea bit of work Iinto it allready, the question is, should I swap out the necessary parts to make it look like a 72, or try to trade the truck for a 72?......or should I just shut the hell up and enjoy my 68.

Welding is a lot like sex, you don't have to be great with the rod as long as you thoroughly prep the surface and your good at grinding

Re: trade or modify

I'm not the expert on it but I'm pretty sure there are more than hood and fender differences. I think the rad support changed at some point too, and possibly other things. What year I don't know, could have been 67 and you're set. Or not. So I'd check.

Your title says "trade" but I doubt you'd find a scenario where a guys has a 72 and wants a 68. Not that either is more desirable than the other, necessarily, but what are the odds of finding that guy, it being of roughly the same value, etc.

If you can swing the cash bridge I'd buy a 72. Then either sell the '68 or depending on the condition of the two maybe you'll want to swap mechanicals around a bit too.

So my suggestion is "buy and sell", not trade or modify.

Re: trade or modify

If it's the opposite of doin a later to 67 swap then you need fenders, hood, hood latch, grill, grill surround, core support and bushings, bumper and bumper brackets. Should take care of things. Most people do the opposite of what you're doing lol Good luck and I hope you're happy with the outcome of whatever you decide to do!

Re: trade or modify

From what I've read you'd need hood, fenders, core support, grille, hood latch on grille side. center grille bracket, parking lights/turn signals, and bumper. I may have missed something.

I'd keep it a 68 and enjoy it. Many on the forum prefer that style.

Re: trade or modify

I would think plenty of guys would trade a 71-72 front end for a 68 one

Although it's true I don't understand It at all. I'd much rather have the 71-72 over any of the other years. To the op. I'd get a 71-2 before you sell the 68. Take the best usable parts of both trucks, make the best 71-2 you can with the parts available and sell the '68.

Re: trade or modify

I'm sure lots of guys on this board would trade you straight across for all the parts to swap from 71-72 to 68 and vice versa

Re: trade or modify

In a heartbeat I would trade. I like the 70-1-2 4wd's but 67-8 2wd's. 69's are another story.
