Re: LSx Lessons Learned.

Don't pour oil down the back of the lifter valley, before the flywheel is bolted on....( you will be chasing an oil leak , that isn't there when it "blurps" out 1 of the bolt holes in the crank flange ) Longhorn

Re: LSx Lessons Learned.

i think the biggest trend is to make sure the engine/trans/ecm is out of the same vehicle.... most problems i have seen is because trans/motor/ecm were from different years and thats when the problems started.

Donno? I do some of my best work , about 1/2 lit At that point I am not afraid to experiment a tad? I chopped the top on my old truck....as you guessed, about 1/2 lit? 1 of the oldest kids buds came in , & goofed on the old truck...(hey can you chop one for me?)....buy all the booze you want AFTER you are done! The kid just piped right up..."if you want the pro job on that top....get him lit 1st" Maybe I should not talk about breaking the cam in on a bro inlaws Olds....yup, she is running 2500. One of his buds walked in to see the old man & the oldest kid passing a dubie , across the motor. Tried to pass it to him.....but I guess he was not into it Longhorn

Re: LSx Lessons Learned.

lol. Hence why I specified beer. I wouldn't have accomplished anything in the last 12 years without herbal encouragement. Everytime I start drinking in the garage, I have to pee before I get anything done, and when I get back...I forgot what I was doing before l left.

Re: LSx Lessons Learned.

Hey all, Here is a helpful part number list and location to buy that really helped me. I got it from board member Glock.

I hope this helps others as well.

Build your air intake or pick whatever breather/intake tube you are going to use BEFORE you have your motor tuned.....

Yep and CPP has since released a new sheet metal style engine stand that addresses all clearance issues and you can use TBSS and Camaro exhaust manifolds and factory location adapter plates with them.
Then you can buy the Holley A/C compressor relocation kit and all your worries magically disappear.

Re: LSx Lessons Learned.

Just as an FYI because the original post mentions it, but you can almost always find coupon codes for ALLDATADIY. Most of the time you can get it 50% off or better for a few month or year subscription for a vehicle.

Just Google ALLDATADIY coupon code and the first few hits usually have good ones.

Re: LSx Lessons Learned.

Is the engine and tranny year match the same on the 4l60e trannys the same as the 4l80e ones? I already picked up a 4.8l from a 2000 truck but no tranny, so now I'm on the search for a 4l60e. I know that it should be out of a 2000 + and 2wd but didn't know about matching the year, defiantly makes it harder to find the right tranny.

Thanks,

Rich

Re: LSx Lessons Learned.

If you don't have V8 mounts to begin with, just slam it as far back as you can. It'll make setting up a cooling fan a lot easier.

If you are going to mod your own wiring, two steps: One, pick your computer location first. Two, giving yourself enough reach from engine to computer, cut / solder / stretch / shorten your wires with the engine & trans out of the truck & on a pallet. It *sucks* trying to make it lay flat & look good while it's in the truck and you can't reach much.

Any 4L60E from behind a Gen III engine will work.

'07 & '08 4L60E's from behind Gen IV engines will work with a Internal Harness swap (Using a '03-'06 harness).

In '09 the 3-2 downshift solenoid was eliminated, Will not work with your set-up. 4L60E production stopped soon after this.

Thank you for the update it cuts through some of the confusion.

How about using a 4l60e from a v6 vehicle?

Rich

Re: LSx Lessons Learned.

Input shafts are different, so that and the convertor would need to be changed. At that point its better just to source the correct trans.
