throttle linkage/ kickdown cable issues

So I'm trying to hook up my kickdown cable on my sbc350 sbc th350. I just bought a mr gasket throttle cable bracket so I can hook up the kickdown. When I have everything installed the throttle linkage and kickdown cable hit each other. Any one else had this issue? If so what did you do to fix this? I can post pictures tomorrow if need to.

D POWERS you seem to have a completely different setup than I have. Your kickdown cable seems to mount to your manifold were mine mounts to the back of my carb.

Its hard to see from your picture. I just recently did a similar swap but used an Edelbrock bracket (p/n 8036). It holds the kickdown cable level with the carburetor throttle lever. The throttle rod doesn't use the bracket and simply pulls between the stock arm and the carb throttle.

There is a short lever arm that was used with the straight 6 and a longer lever arm used for V8's on our trucks. That could potentially be placing the angle of the rod too low in your case if you have the l6 shorter arm. Maybe you can find a longer lever arm from a member or fabricate something to lengthen the arm.

Here are some pictures. I am also having an issue with the cable eyelet being to long. When the cable is all the way in it is still to long were it wrong engage.

Compared to my set up the bracket and cable placement seem to be off. The bracket could be wrong or backward, hard to tell. My bracket mounts to the rear 2 intake manifold bolts. It needs to have the square hole further back to support the cable. I actually had to mount that L shaped slide bracket on the back hole of the base bracket to get it far enough back, but yours might be different. The cable needs to be fully extended just as the throttle reaches its full open position, and loose in the slot when the throttle is closed. This allows the throttle to move freely and not kick down the tranny until the throttle position begins to reach WOT. You don't want the cable too tight restricting the throttle from fully opening. Every instruction I've ever seen says the proper setting is obtained by depressing the pedal to the floor, then adjust the cable.

One concern I have is that spark plug wire zip tied to the throttle linkage in your picture. I wouldn't do that. The cable will constantly move back and forth eventually creating a wear spot on the cable. I would avoid having any cable or wire in the path of the throttle linkage or moving parts. Route the cables behind and under the throttle arm so there is no chance of any wear or contact. I used longer cables for a '75 vette since I'm using ram horn manifolds and needed that extra cable length to make the route back behind everything.

Thanks for the advice Kenfuzed. I need to figure something out with that wire for sure. The rest are under the headers and behind the covers.

I don't know if my bracket is the wrong one or what the deal is. The L bracket is all the way back. If needs be I might build a extension to move it further back.

I think that if you turned it around and mounted via intake bolt, it would work.

So I got my bracket mounted onto my manifold bolts after some modifications. It's kicking down but it's still sifting way to quick. I'm in second gear before I reach 10mph. I'm thinking I don't have the kick cable adjusted. Can someone help me with how to adjust the cable?

The kick down cable has nothing to do with upshift points. To my knowledge that is determined by the governor. Have you searched in the 'Engine and Drivetrain' section of the forum for this issue? If you can not find any previous threads on tuning shift points, post a thread over there and one of our resident trans experts will help you out.
