Tire size suggestions?

Hi Everyone

I am working on a 1952/53 Chevy farm truck.....kinda wanna keep it looking like a farm truck....

I was able to procure a set of 15"x5 1/2" steel wheels off of a 1965 Chevy truck....I am looking for some tall skinny tires that I can run on this truck...

What are you guys running for tall skinny tires?

Any insight would be great.

Re: Tire size suggestions?

7.00-15 is about the only size you'll going to find for those rims.

Try STA tires they have a traction tread and steer tire tread design that are about as old school farm truck as it gets.

Re: Tire size suggestions?

Trust me you really don't want bias ply tires on your truck today .

Here's a radial that will get the job done . The only trouble is that is only 26.5" tall.

Now if your only going to use the truck once in a while for putting around but not as a daily driver then maybe you can get away with bias ply tires.

But for daily or anything other then putting around go with a radial tire.

Now if you're determined to have the narrow tall look, here's a Coker radial but you'll need 16" rims and deep pockets.

If you go this way shop Speedway , Jeg's and Summit for better pricing on Coker tires.

Re: Tire size suggestions?

Hi Everybody

I have 2 tires on the front of Howard Knapp...one is like a 215/85/16....I love the looks of it too...really skinny...I think it is an old Cooper tire in radial form too.....
My only problem with this is I now have a set of 15"x5 1/2" steel wheels for cheap...
I have been looking on Ebay for some used sets of tall skinny radials that might work..

I am gonna keep looking around..hoping to have something that will hold air by the end of next week..I wanna get the old man outside so I can pull the hydraulic tilting mechanism off the rear of the truck...

Thanks again for all the help and insight....

Re: Tire size suggestions?

No problem with Bias ply tires on a pretty much stock rig that isn't going to be running down the freeway at the speed limit or above and still there are plenty of traditional hot rods that do just that and run a lot of fast miles and long distances every year.

On that truck if you put a set of 700 x 15 six plies on it I doubt that you would ever put enough wear on them to worry about as long as you have it.

Plus nothing looks worse than the wrong tires or wrong size tires for the total theme of the truck you have. That doesn't matter if it is a show room stock truck, full tilt custom or jacked up 4x4 conversion the tires make or break the whole deal.
