Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
I need some turn signals for the rear, so been searching the round ones, but flat not the domed ones. Then came across these , they are side repeaters for MX5. I'll need to make an infill panel to suit the mx5 light, but think it will work well.

Good to speak to you today Andy.
Hope to meet you next weekend. Those indicators are a great idea. The essence of hot rodding.

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
painted behind the grill and got one of my daughters to do some painting on the rear.
Also parts starting to arrive now (yippee!), got myself a set of rear lights and chrome trims, front indicator chrome trims, cab switches and got a grill arriving in the next week. So from the outside it will look presentable compared to when it arrived. Next up the lowering stick is coming out, but just lower enough to avoid a C notch

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Its Holts aluminium paint, but tin is about 20 years old, so it's back when they made real paint that covered in one coat

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Been busy over the last few weeks. stripped out the interior and painted floors, doors and dash.
Stripped the hubs off and nice to find recent front shocks and brake shoes Decided to take out some of the bigger dents with a bit if tin bashing to avoid large amounts of filler.

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
I'll weld the holes on the floor later, just wanted to protect what was still good metal. Then decided it sat way too high, so at the front end cut 2 coils off the springs and rear removed springs to fit air bags.
Now that's more like it

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Just found this thread also. A belated welcome and nice job! Your truck is really pretty solid for the year, and the red oxide looks killer on it. Just one quick question. Dynamo? I know bonnet, windscreen and boot, but that's a new one for me.

Nice progress! Also I believe dynamo would refer to a generator or alternator. If you have a choice, go for an internally regulated alternator, it will be much more dependable than either an externally regulated version, or a generator if that's what originally came on the truck.

Yep mark spot on generator. Another one would by wing or fender.

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Was just browsing your thread and noticed your brake shoes are swapped back to front incorrectly. My understanding, though there seems to be some debate, is that the brake shoe with the larger/longer friction surface goes toward the rear of the vehicle. My father-in-law was GM factory trained and insists that's the proper way. Might read up on that and decide for yourself
I'm impressed with what you can do without having parts at your fingertips. I get impatient just having to wait for parts to come the next day from 100 miles away. |

Impressive progress Andy.
I guess you had one of those speed crazed Meerkat grins on your face when the motor fired up. Well done.

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
To be honest when the throttle jammed wide open I nearly shat my pants as I was inside the cab and as I had hard wired the coil straight to the battery, I had to jump out the cab and run round and pull the wires off the battery. with no exhaust fitted my mate who has a chevy caprice police car and is 1 street away came round shortly after, he said he was in his kitchen and it sounded like a Lancaster bomber had flown over his house at low altitude

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
On reflection with a brew in my hand it was more like 'Rabbit caught in headlights' look on my face when I realized turning the ignition key did not kill the motor
