67 c10 problem running
I have a 67 c10 that has a mildly built 355 and turbo 350 transmission. The engine has an edelbrock performer intake and 600 cfm edelbrock 1406. Every time i accelerate hard and accelerate for a while like peeling out of a parking lot the truck dies when i come to a stop at idle. It will go away after a while then come back. I cant figure out what it is. I have all the vacuum line hooked up correctly. It has a brand new msd distributor, i just rebuilt the carb, has brand new fuel line, tank, pump. No power steering or power brakes. Its a hot rod and i want to drive it like one. Please help me.

Re: 67 c10 problem running
Sounds like you're rich on the top. The engine is loading up under full throttle then when you come to an idle it's stalling. I have lots of carb experience on bikes but almost none on vehicles so someone else on here may have a better idea. I'd rip it across a parking lot or somewhere and let it die then look at a spark plug. Also will it restart quicker after it stalls if you press the gas pedal? If so that's another clue that it's loading up.

Re: 67 c10 problem running
You got a fuel regulator?
Eddy carbs don't like more than 5 psi pressure. Also might be timing! What's your initial timing? Where is your vac pot hooked to? Last edited by geezer#99; 03-17-2015 at 01:22 PM. |

Re: 67 c10 problem running
No regulator and dist. Vacuum is hooked to the timed port on the carb and the truck will run perfect if i dont rod the piss out of it but if i accelerate hard fast and long then when i slow down and come to an idle it then starts acting up. Why woul it do this only when i drive it hard?

And i tried starting it back up and revved it up to maybe blow stuff out of there but that didnt work. It just kept doing the same thing. I let it sit for hours and still nothing.

Re: 67 c10 problem running
When you work it hard you get higher fuel pressure and volume. You're using the fuel until you slam the throttle closed. At that point you're flooding a bit. Makes it run rough. Lowers your idle.
You need to lower your float level. Another problem you might have is your timing. What's your initial timing and what rpm are you idling at? |

Re: 67 c10 problem running
12-1400 and idk the timing. It ran good where i had it set it ran really good. So maybe instead of having 7/16 float i shoild have 1/2?

Re: 67 c10 problem running
At your elevation you need as much initial timing as your motor likes and still starts hot.
Get a timing light and start your initial at 16 and increase it 2 degrees at a time until it labours when starting. Then back it off 2 degrees. At 12-1400 rpm you're well into the mechanical timing in the dizzy. The mechanical usually starts working at 850 rpm. Don't bother with the carb yet! |

Re: 67 c10 problem running
12-1400 is way too high for idle, your off the idle circut in into the accelerator circut, need to be about 750-800.
