Offenhauser Single Quad Intake Manifold thoughts

Morning gentlemen, I'm thinking about putting a Offenhauser Single Quad Intake Manifold on my stock 250, carb unknown at this point. What's your experiences with this, stories, and any knowledge as it if it is a good idea, bad or will just end up ugly.
As always, thanks for your thoughts.
Cheers.

Re: Offenhauser Single Quad Intake Manifold thoughts

I ran one on my 194 in my 1963 Chevy II from 1982 to 1990 with a Holley 390 cfm carb. At that time, it was my daily driver in high school and college (and weekend bracket car). In addition to better wide open throttle performance, it gave me a significant bump in fuel mileage over the 1bbl Rochester.

Did it give you more power? Make it more snappy?

Yes, but, in my case, that was primarily a result of the carburetor.

Re: Offenhauser Single Quad Intake Manifold thoughts

If your going to do a 4 barrel you may as well do headers. Personally I like the clifford manifold alot better, better quality and more user friendly. Much more expensive but also easier to install. But I know of alot who have used the offy and few complaints thus far. A good set of headers would be at Langdon's Stovebolt.com. You notice more power with the headers as well. A GM hei wouldn't be a bad idea either. The 4 barrel, headers, hei swap will give you a little better mileage, little more power through the rpm, and will make it a little snappier as well. Don't expect 100 more hp with just those mods. This swap gives at most extra 30 hp. Enough to feel a difference. I'd subscribe to Inliner's International. com to get the best info. Alot of guys on there who have actually done these swaps and can tell you more exact hp gains and such. Subscribed there myself when I rebuilt my hopped up 292. They know they're stuff. Anyhow, hope you enjoy having fun with your 250! If you have any other questions feel free to PM me or I can PM you my number.

make sure you put the water in the manifold for Intake heat. otherwise they are cold blooded as hell. i had a 250 with the clifford intake and after i put the water heated part on the intake it ran much better.
