LS3 416ci/4l85e

getting close to swapping LS3 416ci/4l85e combo. I was wondering if any one has recommendation on a stand alone transmission controller. like MSD, tci, pcs simple shift, painless torq? I already have harness and ecm set up for standalone tcm. so I don't think a stock one will work. thanks in advance.

Re: LS3 416ci/4l85e

I've only ever seen the TCI one used in person. It didn't seem bad to setup, and our TCI rep had it controlling a 4l80e very nicely. What standalone ecm are you running that requires a seperate trans controller? (MS?, eTool?)

I had it programmed for a stand alone tcm. harness set up that way to.

Re: LS3 416ci/4l85e

If they would have used an E67 or E92, they have the capability of controlling a 4L85 tranny.

You can run a factory T42 TCM with your E38 ECM. A OS from a '08-'11 6.0/4L80E Express Van flashed into to both modules will be a good starting point. Not sure about segment swaps with this?

Adding the T42 to your existing set-up is EASY!! The only 2 circuits you will have to mess with on the engine harness are the 2 CAN/Bus wires at the DLC,

The CAN/Bus will come out of the ECM to the TCM, Then out of the TCM to the DLC...Instead of out of the ECM straight to the DLC.

Wire up the Powers & Grounds, ISS, VSS, Range switch, Then the harness to the trans plug.

Factory TCM's can be tuned with HPTuners/EFI Live on top of factory support & diagnostics, I'm not knocking aftermarket controllers, They have their place.....Just not on LS engines.

Re: LS3 416ci/4l85e

clinebarger, the CAN/bus lines you talk about is this the system that uses 120 ohm resistors at both ends of the circuit? If so, is it built into the modules or do you add them at each end or am i thinking of a newer system? Thanks in advance.

Re: LS3 416ci/4l85e

Thanks for the wiring harness info. It looks like the CAN/bus start in the engine controller, daisy chained through every module and ends in the trans controller, and the dlc connection is "tee-ed" into the bus lines. Thanks again.

I was trying to make the diagram bigger, Started getting upset & turned the computer off

The above diagram is a '08 Express Van 6.0L/4L80E, The ECM & TCM have 120 ohm resistors built in, This particular set-up is "tee-ed" in, But not all are like this.

**Anybody using these diagrams for other models.....Be aware there are differences**

I cut the diagram in half, Maybe you can read it now.

Re: LS3 416ci/4l85e

'11 Chevy C/K 4.3L/4L60E & 6.0L/6L80E

It is wired like I stated earlier, Starts at the ECM goes through the TCM, Then to the DLC

Re: LS3 416ci/4l85e
