I've seen a few nos tail gates go on here for 800-ish. I just looked at the repops for 2 seconds and there anywhere from 3-350+shipping. Some people need a reality check in a big way!!! I don't think he will get too many "serious inquires" for some reason. That's more than I payed for my truck.

I am seeing a trend with gates. For a while (one year ago or so) NOS gates were going for $750.00 - $800.00. Now I am seeing them for $950.00- $1,000.00.

The gate in this Craigslist add would probably bring $600.00 - $650.00 in the current market. I also agree that I have not seen the aftermarket gates for $500.00 and there should not even be a comparison between the two.

Hope anyone looking at this does some research first. there are plenty of good used gates out there for much less.

I have a "barn find" take off tail gate. I value it at around $600 given the current market, as Tom described above.

Around 800 is all inwould ever pay, certainly not 2k. If stuff becomes that high as the norm ill just sell off my crap and forget about the hobby. Bizarre

That tailgate is worth $2,000.00, but the truck that is worthy of it doesn't need a tailgate.

I didn't buy these, they are just some I found on craigslist that are currently for sale. I posted the second one showing the extreme price differences.

99% of these tailgates ( with excellent original paint) were removed off new pickups when campers were installed. To the right person who has the same color excellent original paint vehicle, but has a damaged gate, it is valuable. The key is not having to repaint. A GM NOS tailgate still needs to be repainted, and that blows the "all original paint" claim. IMO, yes price is too high for the few excellent original paint trucks that still exist in that color, appears to be a '68 only color. Good news is, there were a lot of camper trucks sold during the RV boom of the late 60's and early 70's, before the gas crisis killed the industry on '74. If you look long enough, you will find another one, even in the right color of your truck, at a quarter of the price.
