What is the best way to prep a frame for por-15?

Hi, so in the near future I will be coating my frame with por-15. I have read mixed reviews about por. Some say it peels off and some say it works amazing! Now my question is what is the best way to roughen up the surface of the frame for the por to stick? Would sandblasting be the best way? or would sanding it with 80 grit or lower after wire wheeling it and getting all of the factory paint off of it. Let me know you guys experience with it. Thanks

With stuff like this, with anything really, i tend to follow the directions the manufacturer provides. You'll get a bunch of different answers on forums but the fact of the matter is, these companies put money into research and development and have chemists in this case that understand how, when, and why you should apply their product(s). I don't think they would give bogus advice. Just my 2 cents...

I did exactly this on my 64. Based on 10 years of using por-15 prior to this task, I did a lot of experiments. My experience is that the best application is to sandblast first, then treat the whole part with Metal Ready until it has a chalky white appearance. Then wash that off with water and dry everything. When dry, start applying the por-15. It really sticks.

The peel off problem happens if the metal is shiny and smooth. There's no tooth for the paint to really adhere to.

I'd agree with the previous poster to follow por's directions.
