strange power steering proble

I have a 1986 k10 350/700r4/208. My problem is I'll be driving down the road and my power steering will cut in and out at random times. Sometimes at low rpm sometimes at higher rpm. The fluid is full on it. Any ideas what could be causing this to happen?
