Step fender bracing

I'm a gas tank away from getting my truck on the road in time for its 50th, and one of the final, non-gas tank pieces of the puzzle is the bracing for the rear fenders.

From what I can tell (thanks LMC), there should be three braces per side; two on each wheel arch that attach to the fender mounting flange, and a third that attaches behind the wheel arches to somewhere. I've figured out three of the four arch braces (and assumed that the side mount spare tire bracketry will come into play on the fourth) but I haven't figured out what the last two braces attach to, if they're supposed to be there at all.

These are the pieces I have:

But when I mock them up, they don't seem to line up to any existing holes, but they do happen to line up with the bed wood, meaning nutting and bolting is out of the question.

What am I missing?

That would explain the taillight provisions in the fender.

"Where the step meets the fender and goes through the frame."

Can you explain that one?

on the inside of the fender, there should be an area where the fender meets the back of the step one of the bolts that attach the 2, one is the brace rod instead of a bolt. well that rod has a threaded end that goes through the frame with a nut on the other side...

So the braces I have to go there. Maybe with a bit of massaging I can get them below the wood where they attach to the bed side.

I don't think I have anything like this in my small stock pile. Back to digging tonight.

Thanks

Re: Step fender bracing

I dug through my increasingly shrinking pile of parts last night and didn't find a brace like what is pictured on the step end of things. I do remember seeing a brace like that at one point, but I can't lay my hands on it now.

I did lay my hands on a few of the back of the quarter braces, as well as a couple shorter braces that I haven't figured out where they belong yet, if they belong.

To the Classifieds!

Re: Step fender bracing

Mine connected with a bolt that went through the bed side and through the L shaped peace that is welded to the bed side that holds the edge of the wood down. I reallocated mine to one of the rails that the wood lays on by creating my own brackets out of tube stock with clamped down ends.

if you dont find one you can make it, use threaded rod for the frame side, weld it to round stock and weld the bent end that attaches to the fender/step portion, if u have extra rods just cut the end with the smashed area that has the bolt hole and weld it up. thats how i made my side mount spare holder from 2 units to make one!!!

These are a help, thanks. I have two brace (4 actually) that will work for that rear most position.
