Has anyone converted deluxe dash knobs to standard knobs?

I have a deluxe (chrome ring) cigarette lighter and standard (all black) knobs on the rest of the dash. Is there a standard knob hiding under the chrome ring? Has anybody removed one of these rings? Any photos? Thoughts? I've attached an image my dash and the new lighter.

Get a standard headlight knob and unscrew it from the shaft. Do the same to the deluxe cigarette lighter and then screw on your standard knob. Mail me the leftovers, no honestly, I like leftovers.

Andice, I have one of those as well as a factory radio with the chrome rings (I think I do) . My GMC has the grey knobs on the rest.
I figured the way I justified it in my head was that it was an "Option" so you get the chrome ring. I know it's not correct.

I would think it would make more sense to trade with someone. Don't ruin the rarer custom knob just to make it match. I'm sure there is someone here that would love to trade you a plain knob for that pretty one.

the deluxe head is different than the standard if you remove the ring. i have a deluxe knob that the ring has come off of in a parts box and will post a pic tomorrow.

Yes, that sounds accurate. With the ring in place the deluxe knob is exactly the same width as the standard (ringless) version. Thanks for replaying. I look forward to seeing the image.

Wow, I'm really late on this response....actually stumbled across it looking for something else, but he's a 60-63 deluxe knob (cigarette knob) with the stainless trim removed.
