Dana 80 swap

I'm building a 70 crewcab dually , was planning on using a 14 bolt rear and converting to disk brakes , but now I'm thinking about using a Dana 80 from a 01 Ram, that has factory disks . Any thoughts ?

Re: Dana 80 swap

Or you can grab the aam 11.5 out of a newer chevy or dodge 1 ton,Its basicly a modern version of a 14 bolt and has rear disc stock.

Re: Dana 80 swap

A 14 bolt will probably bolt in. The 80 will be very wide.

Re: Dana 80 swap

The AAM 10.5 would be/is the modern/new version of the 14 bolt FF the 11.5 is a little bigger but doesn't have a pinion bearing support like the 10.5

What exactly is the purpose of the truck? Heavy hauling, truck pulling, cruising, etc.

Re: Dana 80 swap

is the swap in question simply because of brakes? i would reconsider the disk brake swap depending on your intended use of the vehicle.

there are a lot of questions to answer about the truck and what you need from it before you can say one is better than the other.

Re: Dana 80 swap

No dual tires in this family, however my daily has a Dana 80 rear axle. (3.55 and powerloc)

I went out and measured it. Very close in width to the '75 14 bolt in my Suburban.

I wouldn't hesitate to use the Dana. You'll likely need to figure something that works for the u-joint/yoke

Re: Dana 80 swap

I went with the Dana , Would have to move perches on either axle. Really wanted the rear disk , not planning on much towing , but twin turbo's are in the plans
