Air filter or dyer 1st?

Since adding 50 some feet off copper with drops for drains my air is very dry. Not sure its good enough for paint or plasma so I have a dryer and I have a filter.

Question, do I need both? which 1st?

see pics............ http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=142

nice to hear that since i'm one that preaches copper pipe for cooling air
i'd use the air as is for plasma, but would add a desiccant filter for spraying paint
nothing ruins a paint job more than one spot of water

50 feet is a lot. Assuming you have a decent compressor I don't think you will have any water in there. Since you plan on painting though I would run an air drier. I would plumb two outlets, one for the air through the drier and one without anything so you can run your tools without using up your drier.

Here is my set up.

I have ran it pretty hard and haven't had a drop of water in my air/water separator. I drain the tank and pipes after every use.

Re: Air filter or dyer 1st?

I ran a CNC plasma table for a while. MAKE SURE the air is clean AND DRY before going to the plasma. It makes a HUGE difference.

Run the air like this:

Compressor to a Dryer to a filter at each drop before hooking it up to any tools. For painting, I would add a second filter at the drop used for painting. Try to use the same hose for painting and not anything else if possible. Clean dry air is important for painting.
Air tools need lubrication, I add a couple of drops every time I use mine directly into the coupler on the tool. If I don't think I am going to use the tool a good while, I put a couple drops in a shoot a short burst of air thru before I put it away.

Here is a diagram of what I am talking about....

Re: Air filter or dyer 1st?

If yall need any water in your air lines you need to move to alabama.sometimes I think I accidently hooked up to a water hose by mistake..I got air dryers on everything and always have a decident dryer at my paint gun and my plasma as well .
