steering columns

Anyone have any opinion about the assembly manual when it comes to steering columns?
I have finished combing the local yards, and most of the parts have been ripped up.
The parts catalog folks don't know anything other than what the book says.
I'd like to repair 2 stock columns
The pics members have kindly posted, don't really seem to cover the several varieties of columns
This would make a great FAQ item if I just had 1 of everything.
Any advise (except convert to later column) appreciated.
