Thumbs up Pics of my new ride....Warning!! Chick Car Ahead!!

Here it is...

I'm going to be replacing the soft top in the next month. Only $170 so not bad. There are 2 tears that had been repaired with silicone and seem to be doing an ok job of keeping moisture out.

Also going to be replacing the stock Cassette player since I haven't had any cassettes in like 20 years or so

So not bad for $1700

No pics of the engine but it's a 1.8L 8 valve. 90 hp but it really zips along. You can also drop a 16 valve engine from a scirocco...direct bolt in. IF you're into that kinda thing Not sure if I'm going to get the itch to do something like that, but it's nice to know it can easily be done if wanted.

Top Up Front

Top Up Side

Top Up Rear

Here are pics with the top down but I didn't worry too much about getting the boot totally secured down in the back for just these pics.

Top Down Front

didnt they have a GTI model too? there's a guy around here that enduro races a Rabbit GTI. not only is he an excellent driver, but the turbo 4 cylinder, and 5 speed help him immensely too. i ALMOST caught him once with my Monte Carlo. that happened to be the run that it died immediately after.

They have a GTI in the Rabbit, Golf, Jetta and some of the other models. I'm not positive if it came in the Cabriolet at all. At least I haven't found anything in the research I've done in the past few weeks.
Mine is a Wolfsburg Karmann edition which basically means it's tuned a certain way from what I've come across in my readings. Since Grim has owned several of these, maybe he can set me straight if I'm wrong in this.

N2TRUX-- Cashmere sweater? Hmmmm....let me go look in the section of my closet labeled LAME LOL
No...no cashmere sweater...how about a black leather jacket? At least that way I'll still be co-oridinated with my car without being labeled as a snob. Well that happens anyways...but oh well :P

Great looking car. For that price you got a great deal.

Seems like I only ever saw them in white around here. I know they came in other colors but I guess white is the most popular.

Chevychic,

My dad is a VW mechanic. I grew up with these cars. The Wolfsburg edition means it was made in Germany, it's a little fancier than others. It also has digifant injection on it if it is a 90-91 which is a little different from earlier injection systems. As as far as the 16 valve change goes, they never did put one in that car- only in 88-91 GTIs, Scirrocco, Jettas and maybe the Carat. It does have the highest hp rating they made for their 4cylinder engines and a slightly better transmission with a higher gear ratio. If you really want to make it move, you need to look at the new VR6, that should drop in with a few mods. The 16 valve was a pain anyways. I've owned 2 of them and trust me the wiring problems that can occurr are a lot a fun. Nice car for a girl though! One thing you'll get that you won't on our Chevy's- 300k on the block and 27 miles per gallon!

Looks clean. My Rommies was Black just like that. Girl I worked with had a triple while just like yours and another friend has a Red 85 but that was before the moulded in bumpers and the grill mounted lights.

Invest in Westleys Bleach white for that top.

Ohhh btw...Leave the doors unlocked and lock your junk in the trunk. Get a removable face player. My rommie didn't take that advice till the second top and they cut that just use to doing it to get in even though the door was unlocked. $1100 each time.
Her insurance company dropped her after that.

They are fun to drive wit hthe top off.

I'm looking for something with MPG. 44mile round trip and a 10mpg 454 burb is not cutting it. My wife doesn't care for driving the Burb and I don't care for her Accord but if we swapped durring the week it would save us about $150 a month at minimum.
I'm looking at a project deisel burb or a tiny little big MPG $1000 POS. If it got 40mpg it would save me $300 a month.

Heather,

Very nice little car. Looks incredibly clean for $1700 (of course that's about $2500 in Canadian dollars - still a good buy). Interior looks in good shape too. My wife used to have a '89 Chevy Sprint, before the Pathfinder - it was the perfect car for the city and the 45+ mpg on the highway didn't hurt either.

And just think, next road trip with the Scottsdale, you can put the VW in the box just in case...

I know you'll have fun with it.

The funny thing is, that's the first thing I thought when I pulled into my driveway with it.

Although, I'd probably have to remove the fender flares to get it to fit

mhorning: Thanks for clearing that up. I had kinda assumed all of these older VWs were made in Germany but it's nice to know for sure.

I just heard the weather report this morning and it's supposed to be 60°...might even be warm enough to put the top down later today

Oh and it came with an alarm to help deter thiefs. Not that alarms work so much anymore to keep thiefs out, but I have a very watchful neighborhood.
It's not a great alarm, but it does the job for now until I can get something I'm a little more confident in.

That's a nice looking car...

I had a Scirrocco a long time ago. It was a blast when it ran. Unfortunately it was broken more than it was running. I owned it a couple of years, and probably put just 1000 or 2000 miles on it.

Mike it did come in 88-91. Just for a few short years. The old style GTI 81-87 didn't.
