Re: dana 44 spindle question

Not per the Chevy parts manual. Group 6.020 seems to cover both the knuckle/spindle unit and the spindle alone. Sorry I just don't know much about D44 interchange.

Might try digging through the Dana publication X510-8
http://www2.dana.com/pdf/X510-8DSD.pdf

Quad 4x4 is another good place to look.

Re: dana 44 spindle question

Depends on the year of the 44 with discs. and the weight rating. What are we working with?

Re: dana 44 spindle question

The spindles are all specific and don't swap. The knuckles not as much. But, what is weird in that GM parts book is it shows 69 and 70 as using the same knuckle when '69 is closed and '70 is open

Re: dana 44 spindle question

Looks like my best bet is to find a 71/72 complete front axle.

73-87 front axle should bolt right in as well and should be easy to find

Re: dana 44 spindle question

The '70 Dana44 is a perfect candidate for a disc brake swap using disc brake Dana44 knuckles-out. The perfect donor axle would be one with a torn up differential, bent or broken housing, bad carrier bearings, etc. Otherwise, just a total axle swap and save the '70 for parts

Yes sir up to the mid 70s if I recall correctly(I'm thinking 77ish) the gm 10 bolt that finished up thru 87 after the 44 phased out is nearly identical to the 44.
