Front suspension for 67 C10

Hi,

I am new to the site and just picked up a 67 C10 swb fleetside. I am looking to make this truck a daily driver and something that I can use to haul my dirtbike around. That being said I have been looking into different options to update the front suspension and brakes. I noticed several different companies makes the IFS kit (heidts, scotts, tci, and porterbuilt) were the ones that I was looking at. I was getting a little deterred from the IFS route because of loss of ground clearance and the negative feedback of having a car front end under the truck (mustang II spindles etc). I am looking to still have ground clearance, something that handles better, but keeps the HD aspect of the truck. Right now I am deciding should I get an IFS kit or go with some aftermarket kit to rebuild the stock suspension. Any feedback or suggestions please let me know.

These trucks were WAY ahead of their time the stock suspension on a 67 is all you need ! It has a good quality A frame suspension if it dont have power steering you can add that and parts from 1967 to 1987 will interchange , I say and most on here will agree replace any worn parts and drive it !

Re: Front suspension for 67 C10

I went with Scott's. Couldn't tell you much about it yet as it's still in boxes.
But I should have it installed in a week or two.

I will say this for the uninitiated...
If you're planning on power steering or disk brakes, buy the IFS first.
Mine came with a power steering rack, I had to send the stock frame mounted power steering box back.
The wilwood disc's and calipers are specifically made to fit this suspension.
Since I was also installing an ididit steering column, you have to get the right intermediate shaft and u-joints
to match the steering system on the IFS. I went ahead and did the bolt to 5 on 5 axle conversion as well.

do some research on here to get the disk brake front end from a 71-72 or 73+ 1/2 ton and swap steering and brake lines and booster at the same time.

I don't criticize any of the aftermarket suspension products, they're awesome if you're going for a performance build, possible pro touring or high speed canyon career. However, these trucks have a great suspension in stock form. If you don't need rack and pinion steering, rebuild what's there and add a sway bar if not equipped; you'll have a truck that will rival the trucks GM put out decades after.

If you want more performance, consider tubular A arms.

Re: Front suspension for 67 C10

Thanks for all of the input! I decided to purchase the front brake conversion kit. The bushings in my lower control arms were shot, so I decided to upgrade to the ridetech control arms/coilover setup. Seems to be an easy upgrade without overhauling the entire front end.
The truck currently has power steering, eventually I would probably want to put a rack and pinion in it. Anyone have any input on swapping to rack and pinion? Seems like unisteer makes a good kit, not sure if there are others that match in quality.
