Re: gauges whats available?

Bowtie Bits will sell you a set or original restored GM gauges for $500 (plus shipping). I sent them mine to rebuild and they came out looking awesome. If you've done a 12V conversion they will redo the gauges to work with 12V for no extra charge.

Re: gauges whats available?

Not sure if you want to go through the work it takes to get these looking custom and period correct but here is what I did. As most guys have modern drivetrains in these trucks, electronic speedos present a problem. Well no more for me. I took an autometer gauge $140 to my door and retrofitted it work in the stock cluster. I made my own face plates that are accurate to the original "smaller" gauge. As you can see I did a tach conversion too using a cheap $30 gauge, works great.

I'm just about done with the speedo, I have to drill a hole in the glass so I can use the trip meter, which is really nice to have.

So if you have some time and patience, you can make this work. I could help you with the faceplates, if you DM me. NO one is doing conversions like these. I'v seen one guy do the tach like this and two other people doing speedo conversions, but not with the autometer gauge. Its worth the effort to get that custom look.

Here is a pic of the tach and the speedo, also a vid on the speedo and tach

Re: gauges whats available?

I picked up a set of the New Vintage gauges from Summit:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/nv...1-02/overview/

They had them on sale, 10% off at the time plus free shipping, brought them down to $575. Helps a little on the price but its still a good chunk of change. They may go on sale again or if you call them they may work on price.

Re: gauges whats available?

Almost every one of the AD truck trinket vendors has stock style gauge sets for sale either 6 or 12 volt. Most also sell the custom gauge sets that fit the stock dash. It doesn't hurt to shop for the best deal on what you want though.

If you are close to where Goodguys or NSRA puts on an event the vendors usually have some serious show discounts and on Sunday afternoon the "sell it so I don't have to pack it back up" discounts come into play a lot of times. You also get to actually see the gauges that you are buying that way too and talk to the rep.

If you don't know the brand and it's reputation Google that brand or the particular gauge set and spend some time reading feedback from various sources including this and other forums.

Remember: every time you get in the truck and start it the first thing you will look at will be the gauges and you will look at them often every time you drive so be willing to pay a tad more for ones you really like that have a good reputation rather than "settling for" a set that you don't much care for but are many $$$ cheaper.

Re: gauges whats available?

Similar to 99 to Life's gauges, except using Speedhut gauge innards. They have an option for a remote button so you don't have to drill the glass for the reset

They back-light with colored LEDs rather than use the truck bulbs. Can be green, red or blue and on a rheostat

Having a little light diffusion issue at the bottom of the numerals that I've corrected in the latest face artwork - no pictures yet

Wish I was as far along as 99 and could show them in the truck driving down the road

Re: gauges whats available?

thanks guys, I like this method best to be honest. that way you can custom make the colors however you want to match the dash and then they look more original and not like most out of place aftermarket ones.

For my temp, oil, volts, vaccum and fuel I have a custom cluster I made see pic. I'm running air ride, so I made a custom console for cup holder and air gauges.

here are some vids of the gauges in action

Re: gauges whats available?

e015475 just seen your post, yeah very nice work there. I like your idea for sure. Speedhut gauges are just more money when it comes down to it. I got under $200 in my speedo and tach together. Drilling the glass isn't bad either. But the remote doo hicky you got sounds cool. also I luv having the tip meter. thought I wouldn't but its super nice to know how many miles your logging. Honestly about 5-6 years ago when I wanted to do some custom gauges, I just never pulled the trigger. so happy I am now and I think alot of guys are gonna step the game up for sure.
