new axles or new rear end ???

Spent the day looking for axles with the oil slinger attached however I really don't know what kind of axles I have or what kind of rear end other than a response from a member that I have an Eaton HO33
Well I know I have a C clip locking 17 spline 6 lug axles that are shot out .. I don't know if I bought brand new if they come with the oil slinger on the back so my other option is buying a whole new rear end .. Might even be cheaper .. Lol

Looked at the parts swap meet but I'm not allowed or something like that .. If there are any axles out there for sale .. I'm buying but Sunday is a different story

If you do indeed have a Eaton HO32/33 then no you will not find new axles or much of anything for that differential. I would just upgrade to a 12 bolt. What year of truck do you have?

I have a 63 K10 , the axles I just pulled are 17 spline with C clip locks .. I've been online the past few days and mostly see only used axles out of late 50's

I have the opportunity now to purchase a 10 bolt rear end complete for about $100 . its from a 65 C10
I'm not a professional mechanic and making major modifications would be a bad idea and I would hate to accidentally destroy the frame by drilling holes to make a square peg fit in a round hole but the axles I have are like finding a unicorn

Would this swap be pretty straightforward ? .. I can see a 12 bolt in the future but right now its more getting the wife onboard .. I've had it sitting on the side of the house for over 10 yes so I got to jump on this

A '63 K10 should have had a 12 bolt from the factory, not an Eaton HO32/33. It may have been replaced at one time in the past 53 years. Additionally a '65 C10 will also have a 12 bolt unless it is a GMC which will have a Dana 44. The '65 Chevy C10 12 bolt will be setup for coil springs and trailing arms versus your leaf springs. I would suggest finding a '63-'79 12 bolt from a K5 Blazer or K10 truck, or a 10 bolt from a '80-'86 K5 Blazer or K10 truck or a '87-'91 V1500 Blazer or truck. You will also need to find one with the correct gear ratio to match the front differential. Otherwise you will not be able to use your truck in 4 wheel drive.

Pretty sure that a 1/2 ton 12 bolt out of just about any '63 - mid 80s 4x4 chevy will fit as far as spring perches. Id be selective in trying to find a rear end that matches the gears in front. I see tons of people around here practically giving 12 bolts away after they have swapped in a 14 bolt. Take a lot of measurements of your existing axle, make a sketch and check out the bone yards or CL.

Well I picked this up for $100 .. What are my chance of finding 17 spline axles .. Lol .. Lately I've been so broke I couldn't be fixed .. Right now I've pulled the forward drive shaft so I don't use the front drive .. Not until i've figured out the rear end permanently

What is that out of? I don't remember but did you post a pic of your rear diff in your other thread? Are you sure it's not a 12 bolt? If so, your chances of finding axles are quite good, I just bought one off here the other day.

That is an Eaton HO32/33 differential from a '60-'62 Apache/C10.

Well to be sure .. What does a 12 bolt look like ? .. How can I identify a 12 bolt ? .. Does it have anything to do with the number of bolts holding on the differential cover ?

A 12 bolt center section is going to be much more squared off unlike the Eaton which is round. The third member also does not drop out of a 12 bolt like the Eatons do. There is simply a cover on the back of the 12b which allows access to the gears. Do a Google search for GM 12 bolt, look under the images and you should be able to get a good idea what they look like.

Yes there are 12 bolts holding the cover on. There is also a 12 bolt car and 12 bolt truck rear end as I just learned not too long ago:

Secondly, what do you need to fix the rear end that is in the truck? Just those oil slingers? I wonder if they are part of this kit and called seals also?

I paid $100 for the rear end .. 17 spline axles with slingers .. The brake shoes are brand new .. I remove the shaft seal and bearings .. Bower R1502 and real tight but needle rollers are smaller than the national bearing .. The ring gear is wasted .. Gears are chipped but greatful for the axles .. My differential is in really good shape and I should have Rollin brakes and truck out on the street by this weekend .. Stopping was really important .. Lol

Now I can breath and take the time to look for a permanent , solid and user friendly rear end.

When you have a failed axle seal and it's leaking oil the slinger rests over the end of carrier shaft catching the oil and passing it through the wheel hub and discharging fluid outside the brake drum and into wheel rim .. So if your rims are super oily .. Be glad that all that fluid isn't trapped inside your brake drum .. Might even catch fire
