Question Squeeling Help?

Well guys for the longest time my k20 has squealed worse than a pig when it's running. It has a new water pump, that makes no noises when rotating by itself. Earlier today it was starting to rain while I was letting it idle so I figured hell I'll go ahead and undo the battery so I don't have to open the hood again, that way it won't get wet. And while running I undid it aND the squealing stopped... hooked back up and started doing it again. Thoughs? Opinions?

Re: Squeeling Help?

It was only running the truck and not charging the battery, so it had less of a load. Like mentioned above, it could be a loose belt, could be a bearing.

Re: Squeeling Help?

Make sure your pulleys are in alignment........ if they aren't the belt will squeal like a stuck pig and your belt with shred and fly apart over time.

I just did this to my K5 Blazer and it used to squeal all the time and now after removing 2 of the 3 washers it's all lined up and it doesn't make a sound.

That and check to see if your belt has no more than 1/8" deflection. Either way, replace your belt or at least inspect the one you're currently running.
