door locks?

On the drivers side door the key slot is verticle unlocked and horizontal locked, but on the passenger side the slot is just the opposite unlocked is horizontal and locked is verticle. Is this right because it sure doesn't seem right or does one need to be turned 90 degrees if possible.

Re: door locks?

I'm not a locksmith so don't know how to change it but mine are both vertical when unlocked.

Re: door locks?

mine only has a key slot on the driver's door, no key slot at all on the passenger side - you have to lock and unlock it from inside. Is that normal?

Re: door locks?

The door lock key slots should both be vertical in the unlocked position. If you want to fix it the door handle will have to come off and be taken apart. There is a snap ring and spring that you will have to remove. The cup on the bottom will then have to be repositioned into the proper spot. I don’t have one to send some photos. If you search on LockDock’s postings there are some photos of a rear tail gate lock.

That is normal for the base truck. A keyed right side door was an option- usually part of the Z62 Comfort or Convenience Package. I have a '66 where is was actually a stand-alone option A94, Safety Door Lock Equipment.

Re: door locks?

My 1964 C10 has only a driver's side lock. I want to put a lock on the passenger side in case the driver lock ever jams. Can I get it keyed the same as the ignition?

Re: door locks?

You can order the lock....take the new lock, your driver side lock and the ignition to a locksmith. They can key them the same.

I have my doors and ignition keyed the same, only my glovebox is keyed different, but I plan to take that down and have it keyed the same also.

Re: door locks?

I know this is an old post, but I'm in a similar, but different, position. On my '63 GMC 1/2 ton, I have a keyed lock on the passenger side but a blank on the driver's side. So I have to get in and out of the passenger side, which is slightly annoying. Where's the best place you guys recommend to pick up a new lock cylinder?

Re: door locks?

I got mine as a complete set, both doors, ignition and glove box from the Truck Shop.

Re: door locks?

What's required to install locking cylinder in base model passenger side handle besides just the lock cylinder?

My "old" cars all have lock cylinder ONLY on passenger side. Was told you were supposed to ingress/egress on curb side (not in street) and slide over.
