292 Green Engine Paint ...

I was wondering where to grab some of this stuff ??

My partner located early Buick Straight 8 paint which looks similar ... He can get that, but couldnt find the 292 paint.

Wonder if its the same ??

(search isnt working for me , 'fatal errors')

Re: 292 Green Engine Paint ...

I did a search and found this ....

"292 Green can be obtained through Krylon, paint #2013, known as GM Alpine Green or Detroit Diesel Green"

Re: 292 Green Engine Paint ...

the astronaut painted his highly detailed 65 restoration 292 green... I think he had something mixed up, check out his build thread and PM him about it. All his stuff is dead on perfect.

I have heard the alpine green and detriot green is close also

Re: 292 Green Engine Paint ...

Cool, thanks !!

I wouldn't need anything mixed, not for this rusty rig .... Just close out of a spray can would be good.

So I guess Alpine/Detroit diesel green it is ??

Re: 292 Green Engine Paint ...

Thanks Sig. I used Plasticote Alpine Green on the '65, there wasn't enough original paint to have it matched. The PlastiKote lays out good and has good gloss. Its either a tad lighter, or the original paint was stained and darker, but close enough to not really matter.

Re: 292 Green Engine Paint ...

You have a very nice engine compartment sir. I hope mine looks half that nice when I finish it (64 with a 292). I do insist that the engine is the (almost) correct color and not Chevy orange like it is now. The funny thing is, they did a shabby job and missed some of the lower block (near the bell housing) that is still green.

Thanks for sharing.

Hope this link helps. My 64 is green and I know this because there were still traces of it on the block. It was painted over with orange and not very good because they missed down by the bell housing.

Re: 292 Green Engine Paint ...

I used that gm Detroit diesel alpine green. It makes the 292 look darn close to factory regardless of what carb and exhausted setup your running.

Nice. The guy I'm workingfor now was telling me about this old truck that had a 305 6 in it and how much torque they have. Then few days later our steel supplier said something similar of that engine. Found it ironic
