Gas tank under bed

I am looking to relocate my gas take to under the bed of my stepside. Is there any tank that will fit and have the sending unit work with the original gauge?

Yes, any tank that fits and will accept/uses a 0-30 ohm sender. [Researched fact: Chevy pickups used 0-30 thru 1966.] I'd say any tank that fits can have a 0-30 ohm sender installed. Have you checked with LMC Truck? Brothers? ,,,others? Even a 20 x 20 x 12 aluminum/steel shop made 'box' with a fill pipe and a vent tube and a pickup tube welded in and a sender unit hole cut/threaded worked well on my 1966. (This gives a 20-gallon tank--change dimensions to fit, as our really sharp trucks do not need much capacity, as we don't drive them that far/often. Often a 12-16 gallon tank will suffice.) Sending units are usually adjustable and universal.

Where does the filler neck come out on a step-side with an under-bed tank conversion?

boyd welding tanks are excellent under bed tanks that fit great, they have option of 3 different ohm sending units and offer In tank fuel pumps or just regular for carb options. Very reasonable pricing and it's an aluminum tank, 0-30ohm is what works for your stock guage, 0-90 is for an autometer style newer style gauge which is most common, the other option is a 0-220 or so ohm for straight digital. Hope this helps in your search. Best option in my opinion do it once and never worry about it again.

You probably already know this but the rear frame on a 62 is wider than a 63-66 so if you buy a tank that says it will fit a 63-66 it will fit in your 62 but you will need to need to figure out a way to mount it between wider frame rails.

Getting the tank mounted won't be too bad--I'm a decent enough fabricator that I can make things fit neat and clean.
My concern is with where the filler neck goes.

I made a trap door in the bed. But I have seen people use a camaro tank where the filler neck faces the back of the truck and then install a flip down license plate to cover the filler neck. That is what I wold do if I had to do it all over again.
