Crew cab onto a RCLB frame
My eyes are bleeding from searching, I found everything but what I wanted, so here goes.
I am finally about to embark on my dream, a CCSB 4X4 square body. What I currently have is my poor old rusted out 79 GMC K20 with the Cummins 4BT. I also have a nice 83 SB, and what brought it all together, a completely rust free, painted 77 Chevy C30 crew. The only real issue is the C30 has been slammed into the weeds, so what I want to do is pull the body from the K20, mount the CC 77 cab, and them measure and cut both the 79 frame and the 83 SB frame to put it all together. I won't have the 77CC C30 for about a month, so I can't tell what issue I will run into trying to mount it. I would assume the front body mounts are in the same location, but what about the rears? Will I need to cut them loose and move them rearward? Any help will be appreciated, i almost wish I could find a K30 CCLB frame to start with, but those are ultra rare around here. |

Re: Crew cab onto a RCLB frame
I'm sure it can be done but I think most of your work is going to be to the frame and there is a middle set of mounts on the crew saddle of the frame ( the lowered part under the cab) is longer so it will have to be stretched to fit then the back will have to be cut for the bed to fit right
Or you could move the rear cab mounts back add the middle one and cut the floor pan and build it around the frame but I'd say your still going to make the frame longer for the bed or make a really short bed Just a guess don't hold me to it I've never seen or done one just going off what I know from my years of working on my trucks |

Re: Crew cab onto a RCLB frame
you could always use the c30 frame that the cab is already on. Check out my 88 Suburban build thread. I converted a c20 Suburban to a k10 using the original frame. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=626263

Finding K30 stuff would be worse than finding a complete frame. I can always wait until I get it home to do some direct measurements of the K20 to K30 differences. |

Yes you can convert to 4x4 a lot easier as long as the frame in the front I think it's called a z notch where it was lowered but anything can be done with a torch and welder

What is very sad, is the rate the salvage/scrape yards are Mashing 73-87 Chevy trucks. I have the chance to get around the many yards here in the Jacksonville Fl. Most are all complete and rust free. And with CSX being so big here, the stuff some of you guys would love to get your hands on.
