Enjoying Fall Foliage in the 49 AD

We're lucky to live in the country in new England & I'm even luckier that my wife is a truck fan (she suggested the build a couple years ago after bugging me for some time).

This is a few miles from where we live & I grew up. This fall has been a real stunner & even more enjoyable with the truck. Love all that glass! Played hookey twice this week already, but hey - I'm retiring soon...

Nice pictures. It seems like the upper Pioneer Valley is good for scenic driving any time of the year and this is a great year to get out. Have you been out to an apple orchard this year? I took my family out in my '36 Plymouth last Sunday. We literally had to climb over piles of apples under each tree to get anything from the branches. I've never seen an apple harvest like this year's.

...we have many local orchards & friends in the biz, so apples right off the tree are a ritual - as you seem to do, also. This year is a bumper crop. Nice to see! ...I've been really spoiled - can't eat store bought...

That's beautiful...Kinda miss the colors back in iowa. I'd share the colors turning here in CA, but different shades of brown and all the dust in the air from the almond harvest isn't very appealing

Lastly go enjoy more days of hookie!

stunning truck and foliage. I'm like iowaboynca where the fall colors I see are the displays at costco, or firetrucks heading to another wildfire. But the winters sure are easy on old bones here

...ah yes, winter - about the middle of Feb it does get a bit "old". It is the price to pay & as the years go on, there are definitely times when I dream of warmer places to be....well, wherever you are, there's always some kind of a trade off.

Nice photos and great scenery. A trip to New England for the fall colors is one of the things on my bucket list that will probably go along with a trip to the Race of Gentlemen in a couple of years body and budget allowing.

I'm going to have to settle for an afternoon trip up in the hills around here this weekend this year though.

Nice, we have friends that would go back and do a week long bike tour in New England when the leaves turned in the fall. That is one thing I miss about hunting in the high country out here. Our altitude range was from 7200 to 8400 feet and we always hunted right when the deciduous trees were turning at lower elevations driving up, but before they turned in town. Upper elevations were all evergreen, aspens and sage.

Not to take away from the thread, but have you ever seen this? New Englanders laugh at it, but it's not an "I'm really having fun" kind of laugh.

When I am trying to describe the difference between "mountains" back east and "mountains" in the west to folks who have never been west, I usually say that back east they can look out the car window and see the top of the mountain, but out west they will look to the top of the window to see the middle of the mountain. It usually gives them a sense of perspective.

Those are nice photos, We rarely get fall scenery unless we go to Northern AZ. At my place we have only 2 seasons, Winter/Summer.

My daughter went to college in St. Louis one year. I gave her a book on Idaho and a photo album of out camping adventures so she could explain the topography and wildness to her flat lander classmates. I was disoriented because I have always lived were there are mountains on one side to gauge direction.

That is interesting about being disoriented. I got that way back in PA this August due to the elevation changes and squiggly roads. Just too use to flat terrain and straight roads though I do like mountains.

Re: Enjoying Fall Foliage in the 49 AD

...anyone have fall pics from a ride out west for this season?

Lived in Colorado from 1973 -1977 and the fall was amazing. That's also where my wife picked up the idea for us to eventually do an AD truck. We had a couple friends who had them as daily drivers. No one had any money then & they were a cheap solution if you were in a needed an all around vehicle for work & personal stuff - not to mention there were a lot still on the road.

...Our ride in CO was more "modern" - a 65 'Burb in mostly primer red....
