What color scheme should my truck be?

I bought this 72 with this paint job. Not the best body work underneath, but there is metal there and not bondo. The bottom trim is there, but not the top, so the last painter put a pin stripe there.
I like the white and green two tone, but not against painting it solid green. Olive?

This winter I plan on redoing it back to sorta factory. Not a show truck, just cleaner. The SPID is long gone, did they paint them with the white stripe down the middle without the top trim.

Original paint under the hood:

Re: What color scheme should my truck be?

check for the build sheet behind/under the seat springs or behind the gas tank. otherwise you should be able to tell if there was upper trim from looking inside the cab where the small piece of upper trim would have been between the door and bed. if it doesn't look repaired then it likely would not have had the center white. unless they painted interior too... can't see your first two pictures. someone with more knowledge of 72 two-tones might chime in. also, if the painter cut corners you might find evidence of original paint between the cab and bed, or under door seals, etc.

Re: What color scheme should my truck be?

I've never seen a factory one with white down the middle that didn't have both upper and lower trim.

I personally think any restorations that don't involve trim especially if it was there originally is just cutting corners because it's so period correct. When I finally do my truck that had no trim on plan on adding the upper for sure.

Re: What color scheme should my truck be?

If it was a factory deluxe two tone(the center white stripe) it would have had upper trim. I'm betting the stripe was added. You should be able to find evidence of holes for upper trim if it had it

Re: What color scheme should my truck be?

Unless you wanted to add the upper trim, I'd personally go with solid green bottom with the white roof and keep the lower trim. Would look good, I think.

x2 I agree with that I would personally paint below the trim white and the cab white. I is a very good look especially where you only have lower trim.

Re: What color scheme should my truck be?

That color is dark olive. Im sure it had the upper trim if its green/white/green originally.

Opinions are like you know what, but... Ive always felt that the upper trim hides/takes away from the curved upper body line too much, which is one of the beautiful things about this body style. So, I'd go solid green at least down to the lower trim, with no upper trim.

Nice truck

Your paint job is so nice, I'd just add the top trim over the stripe and call it a day.

Re: What color scheme should my truck be?

It's a Custom Deluxe, so may have never been deluxe two-tone. It could have had the deluxe two-tone option and when repainted the upper trim was not installed. I think I would go solid Dark Olive Poly. The trim stands out better when not two-tone

Re: What color scheme should my truck be?

I love green trucks, I would do solid green with a white top.

Re: What color scheme should my truck be?

Thanks Tom. Think I'll keep the white and buy the trim, even though I don't think it's right for the Custom Deluxe package.

Re: What color scheme should my truck be?

Funny this is the first time I've ever seen an ALE-81 bottle on this site. My truck has the KY Historic tags too though I'm currently out of state.

Not two tone and not the original green be here is my solid colored dark olive with upper and lower trim. It came from the factory white/med. olive/white/med. olive
