One piece of advice I'll give anyone who's doing a decent paint job: fill the spot welds on the tailgate and clean up the drip rail on the cab.

I did neither, leaving it like GM did. Almost everyone who has looked closely at the truck has pointed out the "dings" on the tailgate that are actually just the 4 factory spot welds. I explain it's how GM made them, but I always feel like I'm making excuses for an otherwise nice truck, and it bugs me. So fill them if you still have the chance!

No one has noticed the drip rails other than me, but they're always ugly.

Also since this pic was taken I've tucked those exhaust pipes further under flush with and up against the bumper, so they're less in-your-face but still there (as I wanted them to be).

I do plan to drive this one, even if its raining. It'll only be "new" for a while, but I have a trailer queen already, so no room on the trailer :-) Actually I don't have a trailer, but I already have 2 sunny day cars, this is my TRUCK now. Except only babies can go in the bed, and only in cotton diapers. And only if they've had their nails trimmed. But other than that...

Thanks! I have been in contact with the family, there are still kids and grandkids that grew up camping with it. Sadly the husband and wife are gone a few years back.

When I first started this I felt I was "settling" because it wasn't a 1/2-ton shortbox. Like Jesse before me my original intent was to shorten it, but I just couldn't bring myself to modify it. It was too nice and original.

So now, the irony is, my favorite thing about the truck is that it's a TRUCK, ie: 3/4-ton and 1-ton chassis, extended bed, big ass mirrors and lights, all of that.

Did they make a K3500 Custom Camper (Longhorn?) That's about the only thing it's not!

Nope. No factory Longhorn 4X4s.
