Steering mystery

So my steering works fine when the engine is not running, with the front wheels off the ground it turns fine in both directions. when the engine is running it turns fine to the left, but it takes all my strength to turn it to the right. what gives?

Re: Steering mystery

Sounds like your power steering pump. I was having a similar issue with a brand new one I recently put on. I swapped it out and haven't had a issue since.

Re: Steering mystery

So I assume it is a power steering type truck then if so you have a pressure problem in the pump. the pressure relief valve is in the back of the pump where the pressure line screws into the back where that huge nut is. I bet your problem is right there.
