Two Speed Wiper Switch

Does anyone know where to find a replacement 2-Speed wiper switch for in a tilt column?

I am beginning to think they don't exist. The only ones I can find for tilt are for pulse wipers.

Thanks,
-David

Re: Two Speed Wiper Switch

I had a tilt column rebuilt for my 86 this summer and I needed the 2 speed switch. The fellow that rebuilt the column had a new one which he installed. Don't know if he has another or not. Real nice guy, does a ton of rebuilds in in his garage, and very helpful, and did a wonderful job. His email address wayne@gmtiltsteeringcolumn.com He does a lot of selling on ebay I understand.

By the way, a member told me in a recent post that you can convert to delayed wipers by just adding a module of some sort. If you want to know more contact me and I'll refer you to the post.

Re: Two Speed Wiper Switch

Thanks I have been emailing wayne. I suspect this particular switch is actually listed under another vehicle that used the same column. I like your comment about the delay wiper module which may be the best answer for me. Thanks.

Re: Two Speed Wiper Switch

I responded to a post by superdave and hatzie responded to mine on November 7 telling me about the module to install. It was under the topic "Steering Column Swap Help" I would attach the comments but that's beyond me.

Re: Two Speed Wiper Switch

From 84 on it's an easy plug-in upgrade to pulse wipers (CD4). The parts are easier to find than the non pulse parts.
Your original switch plug and the CD4 pulse module mate with the same harness connector.
You're replacing the wiper switch anyway. The easy availability CD4 wiper switch mates with the CD4 pulse module... all done.

The column switches are not cheap. Tilt with delay switches were apparently more common because they're actually available.
You need the switch, lever stalk, and, pulse module.

Cruise switching is entirely inside the lever stalk.

You can find working used pulse boards on a lot of the 85-91 trucks Suburbans and K5 Blazers at your U-pulllit. My stripped down 1985 C10 Custom Deluxe even had pulse wipers.

Very likely you can get driver condition CD4 lever stalks... if you don't have K34 cruise. I wouldn't bother with used CD4/K34 stalks.

The 1984 pulse modules have a different part number from the 85-91. They'll plug in but you probably want to steer clear of em.

Tilt Column RPO N33
Pulse wiper RPO is CD4
Cruise control RPO is K34

Re: Two Speed Wiper Switch

Great info! I can pick up the pulse module then and get the wipers working properly again and then when the weather warms up I can go back into the column and replace the wiper switch and turn signal switch to clean up the worn out switches.

Thanks Everyone!

The standard wiper switch does not plug into the CD4 pulse module it's just the harness side that's compatible.

If your wiper switch is dead right now you'll have to replace the switch one way or the other. You can use the CD4 switch, that's actually available, if you get a pulse module...

One other thing I didn't point out is... even if the pulse module is dead the wipers will work on low and high. Grab a handful of them at a U-pick-em. Most of em will work if not all of them.

The aftermarket K34/CD4 lever is pretty cheap. If it were mine, I had no cruise and I couldn't find a decent used CD4 only lever... I'd probably get the cheaper APDTY 50397 everything lever from amazon and tie the cruise wire off down near the bottom of the column.

Re: Two Speed Wiper Switch

Thanks Hatzie, in my case I originally had non-tilt floor shift column/truck (86) with two speed wipers. I purchased a tilt column that was supposedly rebuilt.

With the new tilt column the turn signal canceler is not so good and it had the wiper switch in it for pulse (with a lot of play) so without the pulse module getting the wipers on without something else (like the washers coming on) was a challenge. I tried both the stalk for the 2-speed as well as the worn out one that is a CD4+K34 that came with the tilt. Based on your last note I will also try the stalk again with the old CD4+K34 (perhaps I did not have the outer portion of the stalk with the washer on properly aligned).

Re: Two Speed Wiper Switch

I'd be unhappy about a "rebuilt" column arriving with dead loose floppy switches. If it's a used column you probably should strip it down and fix the bolts that loosen up in the tilt. Considering the condition of the switches I probably would check while you're down in there fixing them.
How is the dimmer. If that's dead you get to hit all of them...

Unless there's something very wrong with the CD4/K34 stalk you can probably use it in a new wiper switch.

The Cancel cam is usually not too bad. If you're lucky it's just the cancel springs or the horn ring with the cam profile is worn. It's a pain in the neck to get to but you'll already be there doing the wiper switch.

The replacement turnsignal switches have mixed reviews... stiff hazard buttons and loose turnsignal swtiching. If possible I'd keep the original by stuffing $2 in Dorman springs into it.

This is a 98 Buick but the broad strokes are the same...
