Accuair hard line question
Hey guys. The time has finally come for me to order an Accuair e-level kit for my 69. I heard that Accuair has made it possible to run hard lines in your system with a threaded manifold? My question...are there any downfalls to plumbing with hard lines instead of the DOT airlines? Do you think you get more or less air leaks? Do the metal lines contaminate the air, or allow for more condensation?
My plan (which may or may not change depending on what you guys say) is to buy the threaded manifold with the fittings to run the push in DOT airlines. Once I have everything in place where I want it and am happy with it, start making the hardlines for it, remove the push in fittings and re plumb it. I'd hate to buy the push in style manifold and not be happy with the plastic lines. Also, I am going with the 2-3gal tanks with the PB compressor/tank mounts on either side of the frame right behind the cab. Only issue is, that is where my optima currently resides. Is there enough room under the pass side floor? Or should I put it on the rear of the frame just before the rear bumper brackets? Also, any pics would be AWESOME! I can't answer any of these questions because I have never run hard line but my plan is to do almost exactly everything you are describing...... I plan to run the EXO mounts on the side of the frame in the same area with 2 corner solenoids with each tank/compressor setup. then I will hardline from there.The battery I have not thought about yet so it will be interesting to see what other people come up with.

Have you looked at the Porterbuild mounts? I thought about the Exo mounts too but I like the PB brackets for what I'm doing with a tank & compressor on either side. If I did one 5gal tank I would maybe go with the Exo, but not with 2 - 3gal tanks. I've done quite a bit of research and I think (for me) this is the way to go. Plus, I must admit, I am in LOVE with Porterbuilt products and would do my whole truck PB if I could afford it!

I also see, by looking at more pictures, that I might run into an issue with my rear sway bar mount. I may need to do some modifications or just run a different rear sway bar setup.

I have looked at the PB mounts and I agree their products are top notch and I currently have a full suspension on order from them. My idea is to run two 3 gal tanks. I will use 4 Eco rings one on each side to mount the compressors. One on each side to mount the 2 corner solenoids. I will mount the ECU in the cab of the truck.

Thanks I appreciate that. The truck came to me from Montana and had some rot th the cab corners and cowls from all the pine needles that were roting and creating compost. I have the PB stage 3 front and rear on order now. With their new boxed tailing arm crossmember and frame stiffener. There are a couple other goodies I have planed for the truck. We will see how long it takes me to get it done.
Hope someone else chimes in on this hard line and battery situation. I have a plan for how to do the lines but not sure where to place the baterry(s) I may run a dual setup for backup...... I am a little OCD. I like to have things symmetric.... Where possible plus to like the idea of having extra power onboard I can switch to in an emergency. |

I have seen someone run hard lines before on here but most just run the rubber lines.If you run sealed batteries you can get mounts and put them anywhere you got room for them.

Well I just got off the phone with Travis over at Az Pro Performance. Ordered a Pro2 Air Management Kit w/ Porterbuilt Brackets, 4 AirLift Dominator D2600 bags, front & rear bag mount brackets and AccuAir e-level kit. Can't wait! Feel like a 10yr old on Christmas Eve!
I got the NPT threaded manifold so I can update to hardlines eventually. Just had to get some extra NPT to push in fittings to run the plastic lines for now. |

After a lot of searching and a lot of thinking, I am going to leave the battery where it is. I have seen where people have put an air tank behind the rear fuel tank and before the rear bumper, plenty of room. So I will use the PB setup on the drivers side behind the cab for one compressor & tank. I will keep the battery on the passenger side and will mount the 2nd 3gal tank in the rear and find a place for the second compressor. I almost thought about putting the battery back to the factory location but it just looks so clean without it. I am also going to raise the floor 2"-3" to give a little more room for axle travel. I may go with a larger notch at some point.
Here is what I'm talking about, although this looks to be a 5gal tank. I bought a new rear bumper so I could figure out the space. These pictures are from another build on here but I don't remember who's it is. |
