WTB 54-55 1st Bellhousing crossmember
Wanting to buy a 54 or early 55 crossmember for under the engine/bellhousing. 250 swap planned and I want to keep the sm420. Been told that is the right animal for the job.

Re: WTB 54-55 1st Bellhousing crossmember
Did they differ in 54-55 from the other AD years? I did a T5 swap in my 50 and may still have the crossmember laying around. Should I go up to my parts loft and look or were they different?

Re: WTB 54-55 1st Bellhousing crossmember
Midlifer,
The way I understand it, the 54 and early 55 are unique, although the 60's look similar, they must be different in shape and or width. Here is a pic of a 50 3600 crossmember... compare it to the 54 I posted before. Please note that the picured bellhousing and crossmember do not go together. The bellhousing goes to the very first pic in this post and further down where they are shown together again. Sorry for the confusion. I have seen pics of one modified, but it was heavily modified, I'd rather avoid that. The 54-55.1 is made to work with this bellhousing, which will bolt to a 230, 250, 292, and newer V-8's. Someone correct me if any of this is wrong, please. If you still have yours, I may be interested. Can you get a pic? Thanks, Larry W. Last edited by mrf1002u; 11-17-2015 at 03:32 PM. Reason: Clarity. Pictures are confusing people. |

Sorry I read your post wrong. From what I know, your 50 would look like my 53, not the first one I posted from a 54. Thanks |

Re: WTB 54-55 1st Bellhousing crossmember
Here are some pics
Other than a thick coating of grease and dirt it is in good shape. There is no rust through or rot. I was careful not to mangle this when I took it out. Thanks Marc

Re: WTB 54-55 1st Bellhousing crossmember
OK well my crossmember is definitely the earlier type. Good luck with the hunt for a later one.

Thanks for going to the trouble...unfortunately, that will be just like the one in my 53 too. The one needed will look similar, but the holes are like the first pic in this post. I really did this wrong, I shouldn't have posted the wrong crossmember pic in the same post as the right bellhousing, especially since they look like they belong together. Larry W. |

The angled feet of the bellhousing fit on rubber mounts that go into the larger holes on the crossmember. The 53 down crossmember doesn't have the right holes in it and I assume has a different shape or drop to it. Thanks, Larry W. |
