203 and 208 shifter location

I have an 85 K20 with a 400/208. I have locted a 400/203 from a 79 K20 with shifter that I want to install in place of the 400/208. I know what you are thinking, why? Well I want to run the 400/203/205 doubler as money allows.

My question is will the stock 203 shifter come through the same place as the 208 shifter or will the tunnel need to be trimed? The 84-87 trucks don't have a removeable tunnel.

Just trying to prepare for the swap!

Thanks,
Keith

i DONT KNOW IF IT WILL ANSWER YOUR QUESTION OR NOT BUT THE 208 SHIFTER IS MOUNTED TO THE FLOOR AND THE OTHERS MOUNT TO THE TRANSFER CASE. iT MIGHT COME THREW THE SAME HOLE BUT IF YOU PUT A BODY LIFT ON THE 208 WILL BE EISIER TO WORK WITH AND YOU WONT HAVE TO CUT A HUGE HOLE IN THE FLOOR FOR IT TO WORK RIGHT.

The cab that I put on my truck came from a truck with a 400/208. My truck has a 350/203. The hole lined up pretty well. I put the stick part of the shifter on the other side (where the two bolts are). After that it fit like factory. So the hole should line up fairly close for you.
