Re: too good to be true
here area couple that are a little more my speed and would probably be better daily drivers.
http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/5374462138.html it needs some body work, you can see the dents in the tailgate and the rocker panels have some rust bubbles. The paint is pretty new, so a paint shop could repair and match the paint, right? Here's another that may be a better value, although more money. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst...356008069.html I guess it's the holiday or maybe "payback karma" but neither seller is very responsive. I'll probably lay low until Jan 2016 and begin in earnest. I hope everyone had a good Christmas and a happy New Year. Rob |

Re: too good to be true
Depends what you want. A rust-free, dent-free, good paint job will still run $20K. That's not Pebble Beach - that'd be double that. I'm talking basic prep, blocking, prep, and (maybe) sanding/buffing to cut orange peel.
I'm sure Maaco can tape, scuff, and shoot a car in enamel for $3500 though. But let's be clear there are a wide range of outcomes as to what a paint job really means to different people. Assume $2K in materials, so you've got 18K left, which is 180 hours, which is about a month for one guy, or if you prefer, a week for four guys. I paid $20K for mine, but it included welding up the longhorn seams and assembly of anything that touched paint. I'm sure that could come down to $15K if I did the assembly myself. That was after 3 similar local estimates and I still wound up shipping the thing from WA to WI and back to do it.

Re: too good to be true
I see the Sacramento listing is down. Did you pull the trigger? Didn't even get to see photos...

Re: too good to be true
Are you looking for a restored truck or something that's all original? One of my trucks is getting ready for sale right now. We plan on selling it in the spring. '69 GMC C20 LWB 350 4 speed. All original paint, no rust anywhere ever. Runs perfect. Represented to me with 70k and I believe that. It is much shinier now, buffing is about half done at this point. Original radio is being rebuilt, I'm looking into finding the original custom cloth to custom make a replacement seat cover. Last thing to do is bend up new exhaust which I'll do myself. Just thought I'd throw it out there, not sure what your ideal truck would be. This one happens to be a time capsule, all the original books are in the glovebox.

Re: too good to be true
Chrome8, really nice truck but I'm trying to limit my search to something my wife and I can do on a one day road trip. The ideal scenario is to drive to Napa and do some wine tasting, buy a truck in the afternoon and drive it home. That may be too much to hope for.

http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/5375283233.html Not sure what he's doing, this is the third time. I don't understand this business of listing a truck on CL to "test the waters". I'm not saying he's doing this but I see this all the time. Also, listing a truck and not responding to emails/calls/texts. I know there are plenty of "tire kickers" out there but that's a cost of doing business. I sold my wife's car a few weeks ago and responded to everyone who wasn't an obvious low-baller or dealer. Rant over. Gotta go back to work tomorrow, but at least I have a job. Rob |

Re: too good to be true
I like that Sacramento one! Nice truck, and I'm not usually a stepside guy.

Re: too good to be true
sawyerrm, I can respect that. Buying a truck is always an adventure. We drove from MN to Wyoming to buy this truck a couple years ago. What a trip, and back for work on Monday morning. We are planning another road trip to take the truck to auction in March, should be a good time. A bunch of car guys at a car auction and a road trip to get there is a lot of fun in my book. I hope you find the right truck for you. The experience of buying it should be a good time, and something to get exited about. We posted to the board on the way out there...here's the link.

Re: too good to be true
If you are super serious about the blue one in LA, I can have a closer look if you want. Get some "in your face" pictures that show a little truth.
