Looking for Expert Advice - 1972 Purchase

I drove past this GMC 1500 Super Custom at a dealership on Christmas Eve and stopped to give it a look. Seems to be a fairly clean ride, but there is not a lot of info on the dealership website.

I believe it has a 327, but not certain. I didn't notice any rust on the body. Frame looks to be straight. Appears to have a hood cowl which I don't believe is original. I've got some better pics on my phone, but the website has some pics.

Looking for community advice/opinions on the vehicle at current cost with all the unknowns. Obviously one would have to make some assumptions. I'm certain the price will come down with negotiations.

Trying to decide if I want to make the trip back up to test drive. Any input is appreciated.

Not a bad looking truck. Engine is a 350, G.M. phased out the 327 in 1969, it was replaced with the 307. Most of these half ton trucks had 350's very popular engine. Hood is not stock, aftermarket cowl type. Otherwise couldn't see any issues, nicely done.
Being a new car dealer price reflects that, try to get it for a couple thousand less, car lots always increase their prices anyways.
Should be a nice enjoyable truck, if you decide to buy it.

That truck was someone else's learning tool. Note the in-dash tach, the Chinese valve covers and air cleaner, all of that. You'll be sorting out their mistakes for a while. And that's OK, unmolested trucks are getting hard to find.

I think that truck is priced about 2.5X what it's worth, and that's if there's no filler in it. If it were a rust-free big block with buckets I'd give you $7500 for it. It's not.

Especially down in Texas where they don't rust I think you can find much, much better candidates, but they won't be sitting on the corner lot easy to find! Hit he board and craigslist, monitor eBay, etc.

Took me two years to find mine, but I got a rust free, AC, big-block, bucket-seat Longhorn for $6500 (not everyone wants a Longhorn though). Call that $7500 this year. Just a data point.

I don't believe it's a 65K mile truck, but who really knows. Price is dealer priced, but someone will pay $10K and think they got a deal.

it is a nice clean truck ,but it not org, by no means,wrong hood,steering wheel,radio,tach,and thats just for starters.I'm sure it has more than 65,000 miles,like you say who know.I think they are asking twice what it is really worth in my opinion

I'm with Dave in that it's way over priced and down south you got lots to choose from in better price ranges. I'd stay away from that truck, especially in that price range. Better off finding a private seller truck that's mostly original or done nicely. This one is local to me and $6500 CAD or $4600 USD and looks better than that dealer truck from a value stand point lol

Not too often do we see horns in vehicles up here lol Except for the classic Caddy's which may sport some on the hood now and then lol

There's no info so they can get you in the door and sell you something. That's the car business.
It may be the south, but all the usual rust is here, just not as bad. It looks recently painted but to me that raises the question of what's under the paint?
I agree the price is pretty high.

I'm a used car manager at my Dad's Chev/Buick store and most likely the dealership doesn't know much about a truck like this other than what is on the odometer. The internet guy probably scratched his head prior to writing the description. I'd be happy to call up the used car manager for you and try to get the straight scoop on this truck if you really want to own it. He may know these trucks or he may not. It could have rolled up on a Saturday and the customer wanted to trade for a new truck, he made a deal and did the best he could to figure out how to value the trade. Deals happen fast and you have to make decisions. Ya never know what kind of person you run into, but for a board member I'd be happy to make the call. PM me.

It looks nice in the pictures, but new shiny paint can hide a multitude of problems. From what I can see, it is nowhere near original. Being a GMC, it would be a C1500, not a C10. I also agree with the other post that it is way overpriced. I would advise staying away from this one, unless you can get it for around $7000 or less.
