PVC manifold vaccum port?

Trying to help a friend that just got a 68 straight 6 250.

On the rear of the valve cover is where the pvc is located and the hose runs down the intake manifold between the head and the carb.

The problem is the nipple in the manifold (where the hose attaches) is pushed down inside and is loose.

1) How do you fix this

2) Can this cause a vacuum leak on the carb...

Thanks...ed...

Re: PVC manifold vaccum port?

Is the manifold on the truck?
And it will create a vacuum leak!

Re: PVC manifold vaccum port?

Wrestle the one that's in there outta there and make a new one. A piece of tubing can be made to fit easily.
Or fix the piece you remove.

If you can't get it out you might need to remove the intake to fix it.

Ok I'll give it a shot tomorrow or the next and I'll get back with you, btw should it put some type of sealer around the tubing? Thanks man (geezer#99)...ed...

Long nose needlenose pliers might work.

Re: PVC manifold vaccum port?

The hose connector on the top of the intake manifold is for the brake booster. The port on the left side of the intake manifold (closest to the drivers side) is where the PCV hose runs to. You will have to buy a fitting to thread into it. I tried connecting mine to the port on the top of the intake maifold and it blew oil out of the dipstick tube.

Hmm, after looking at several other straight 6's on this forum, it like the pvc is going there. I personally don't know much about 6's but I'm learning so I can help my friend. Thanks for your response and your suggestion is noted and we'll see where it goes from here. Btw this not his manifold, I'm just using this pic to show the nipple port...ed...

Re: PVC manifold vaccum port?

Ok, so this nipple just sits down in the hole but will pull back out pretty easy maybe causing a vacuum. Should this be sealed down? And with what, thanks...ed...

Re: PVC manifold vaccum port?

Ed:
Clean the fitting and the hole and apply a thin layer of permatex to it and insert it into the hole. Being careful not to use too much where it will get into the inside of the manifold. Either cap it or connect the PCV hose. In my case, when I connected it to this fitting, it blew oil out of the dipstick. I connect it to the driver’s side port, the “blow by” went away.

Re: PVC manifold vaccum port?

That nipple IS for the pcv valve. I would use JB Weld or a high-temp epoxy on it.

Re: PVC manifold vaccum port?

I’m going to have to figure out why the engine was blowing oil out of the dipstick tube when I have my PCV hose connected to it. When I bought the truck in May, it was set up with the PCV hose connected to the port on the side. Had no problem until I connected it to the top port. Not sure why it happened. If anyone on this site has any info please share it with everyone.
Thanks…Poway

Re: PVC manifold vaccum port?

Is the tube plugged that goes down into the intake manifold?
