14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Finished my build about a year and a half ago and made some minor changes along the way. Now with the winter months sitting in, I decided to make a major change. Started researching big brake kits as I have never been completely satisfied with the stock front rotors, rear drums and stock master cylinder set up, especially running 20" wheels. Started researching and ran across the CPP kit that had 13" front and 12" rear which would have ran around 1700 and then of course the Wilwood route roughly estimated at 3 grand or better. a member on this site recommended checking out AZ Pro Performance. So I sent them an email and was gotten back to in the same day (Unlike some others). The kit with cables was a little over $2000.00 I opted to add the parking brake cable. Travis was very helpful through the whole purchase and answered all my questions. It will have take roughly 2 weeks to get it in as it will be here on Tuesday morning. No issue, that's why we do these projects when there is a foot of snow outside. Below are the pics that represent the kit. I will keep this thread going all the way through the change over in case any are interested in this route.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

While I am waiting on getting the kit in. I wanted to do some other changes. Travis stated the stock master cylinder on my 71 would work and all I needed to do was remove the proportioning valve and plumb in the new adjustable one for the rear. I still may add the adjustable one if needed, but I wanted to use stock lines. I also wanted to add a bit to the look so I went with a 1 1/8" Wilwood master cylinder and a disc / disc proportioning valve from Right Stuff. All the stock replacement lines connected directly without any adapters and I was able to use the stock proportioning valve bracket. Pictured below is the stock set up vs the two pics of the new. Much happier with the new look.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

The rear end I used in the original build was simply pulled cleaned up and put back in along with new seals and drum brake hardware. I had another rear end sitting around out of another truck. So I took and had it sandblasted, pulled all the backing plates etc. (if anyone needs any of that stuff let me know or it's getting pitched). Also put a rebuild kit in it. The AZ kit comes with clamps for the rear line bracket. I thought in this case it would be nice to weld them on vs the clamps and get everything fitted and painted. My vision is to get this rear end fitted with the rear calipers and make an easy swap when ready of the complete rear end. The pictures below are simply of that rebuild. Once I get everything fitted, this will be the rear end that will go into the truck with the rear disc set up. The plus side is I will have a nicely painted drum brake 5 lug rear end to sell to help recover cost at the end of the project.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

No on to what we have to work with. The 20" wheels have so much empty area. I went ahead and got the truck sitting up on stands pulled the wheels to do some cleaning while I am waiting for everything to come in. One odd thing you will notice is on the front. I ran stock calipers from the start but found these aluminum 2 piston calipers that bolted right on in the stock locations with no modifications. Still small set up.

Nice looking truck Casey, I'll follow along on the brake upgrade. By the way, did you have any trouble with the Coy wheels fitting over the hubs?

No issue with the Coy's on the stick hub. I sure hope there isn't an issue with this kit. I guess we will see on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I was just curious, when I got my Coy's the center bore of the wheel wasn't large enough. Hope everything works out for ya.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Very excited to see this when I got home from work. My wife on the other hand wasn't very excited to move heavy boxes into the living room. Anyway, took them out to the shop and opened them. Everything nicely packaged and ready to install.

Based off our conversation, first thing I did was tear open the box.
I pulled the front hub and placed the rotor over it and then dropped the wheel on top. No issues at all with interference. I did some research before all this came in and saw some issues with the C5 Coys wheels. C57 seems to be ok.

I'm glad it worked out for you. There's nothing more aggravating than getting new goodies and then realizing they don't fit!!!

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Got started last night. Figured I would get the rear end done so I can get it in paint. I pulled the pin so I could slide the axles out and get the main brackets put on that hold the caliper brackets.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Next was the spacers and the rear caliper mount. Everything lined up easily with no issues. Torques to required specs and moved on. Axles are back in and c clipped at this point.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Moving to the front of the rear axle the kit supplies a beveled ring that is basically a spacer that will keep the rotor aligned to the center of the axle. It's beveled and should only be put on in the manner that will conform to the shape of the axle. It was tight as it should be. I basically started it on be hand and took a rubber mallet and tapped it on with ease. You can see the void it fills in between the axle end and rotor once the rotor is installed.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Next, I installed the rear calipers to check for fit, etc. Installed the calipers that were supplied and had to brake loose the guide pin bolt to install the BAER pads that came with the kit.

Like a kid, I had to see what this would all look like through the wheel so I got a preview. Added a couple of pics from the back side also.

These next two pics are of the rear brake caliper line being installed and looking at how I am going to route it to the axle to the brake line mount which in tern will connect to the stock rear line.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

I decided that the best place to mount the tab was actually at the old stock brake line tab which held the old line in place. Since I don't need it anymore, I am going to knock it off and actually weld the tab on, versus using the supplied clamps that were supplied with the kit. This way I can paint it all and it will look like it belongs there. All finished up for now and time to get it painted. Hopefully I can do so this weekend.

Re: 14" Revelator Big Brake Kit from AZ Pro Performance Install

Started to pull the front apart. Obviously with the wheel removed, I took the caliper off and laid it on the back. Pulled the dust cover off the end of the hub, pulled the cotter pin, removed the axle nut and rotor, Next I had to remove the three bolts holding on the stock dust cover. I wont need the stock caliper, stock dust cover or rotor. All these are being put off to the side. Maybe sell them later on. Tomorrow I will pick up the required drill and tap to drill out and tap two of the existing dust cover holes that I will use to hold the new caliper bracket.
