Buyer beware

One of our more knowledgeable posters pointed out the errors (cough!) on this truck, and I learned a thing or two also. The problem begins with the VIN, runs into the description and ends with multiple issues surrounding a SPID.

I'm sure the seller doesn't know any better........

Re: Buyer beware

Some people will knock anything. This is a good truck for the money, from what I've seen for sale. What are the issues? They used a custom black Cheyenne Super seat cover on a Cheyenne? The WB area is damaged? I don't see any claims of what it is not. I guess I'm not knowledgeable. I don't see anything so grossly wrong with this listing to warrant a critical thread

Yeah I agree. Besides, this isn't a concours car or some numbers matching big block Chevy from the 60's. It's a truck.

Re: Buyer beware

with the fresh scratches on the spid my first thought would be that they made it a shortbed. I don't have a problem with that. just be honest about it. I would look under the truck at the frame. if done right it could be stronger than the rest of the frame. I have a truck that has been cut that I bought knowing it was cut.

Re: Buyer beware

I agree. It looks like a really nice truck.

Even with the big scratches in the SPID wheelbase box across what appears to read "127".

And these old eyes might be deceiving me, but that short bed looks to be about 6" too short in the photos. I've gotta get new glasses.

Re: Buyer beware

They list the vin # as CS, that would be a 6 cylinder truck, but the spid lists a 350. No picture of the vin tag that I saw though. Nice looking truck though

I'd drive it. I'd never pay that $19,000 price tag, but it's still a nice looking driver for around half that price

Re: Buyer beware

Very few of the "new" buyers really care if it's correct or not because it will end up LSed and dropped on the ground . There only original once , and true original correct clean trucks are hard to find already , Being correct is only relevant to the buyer .Once you replace or upgrade anything you may as well throw spid info away .

Re: Buyer beware

I didn't look at the VIN, just the pictures and read the description. I'd say good eye but I guess I just missed something obvious. That'll make you wonder, though it could just be a wrongly printed SPID. The scratched off WB is suspect. But, I don't know when it was done and w/o looking at the truck it's all speculation. If I was buying the truck I would certainly have that verified, as with any SWB these days. I'd call this better than a driver.

Re: Buyer beware

My bet would be a cab swap over to a SWB frame, and maybe the original tailgate from the LWB truck. The tailgate vs. bedsides look a little off (to me) and the Ochre 603 code would indicate a solid color truck if I am not mistaken (?) The white two tone looks a bit fresh compared to the wear around the rest of the truck.

BUT -- I'd love to have it, and I'd drive the wheels off of it, just like it is. An original SWB Cheyenne true V8 truck, in this condition would fetch more than $19k. Just my opinion. All you need is someone who wants the truck real bad and don't know a lot about it.

You're definitely knowledgeable K. I take your advice to heart.

The VIN within the description and the door jam plate suggest this is a 1971 6-cyl.

Per the description it's a 1972 350. I don't see where the SPID supports a 71 or 72.

Per the description the SPID supports this as a factory short bed. Couldn't tell you how they came to that conclusion.

Other than that it's a very cool truck.

Look at the pics in the other link (not ebay) there is a pic and you can barely make out the 7. If it were a shortbed, it would be 115.
