Oil Pressure Sender for Aftermarket Gauge

I've replaced the idiot lights on my 1978 C10 (305 V8) with water temp., oil press., Voltmeter and tach, all 2 inch gauges. All are working except for the oil pressure, which I haven't found a place, that I can get to, to put the sender. Is there another port, other than the oil pres. switch port behind the distributor, that I can use? If not, any tips about getting to the oil press switch sender to replace it with the new one would be appreciated.

Re: Oil Pressure Sender for Aftermarket Gauge

I am not aware of any other place on the small block to mount the oil pressure sending unit. I know they are in a bad spot, I bought a cheap combination wrench, heated and bent to make it easier to remove the original. If I remember right, your sending unit is large and round. You may be able to
slip a small strap wrench on it higher up.

The TBI blocks have an additional port above the oil filter, Not sure about the earlier carbed blocks but you might take a look and see if you have a plug there.

Re: Oil Pressure Sender for Aftermarket Gauge

Just three different views showing the location of the oil port just above the oil filter mounting flange:

It's location within the lube oil system. Note that in a schematic sense, it is in the same place as the port behind the distributor:

That port is drilled and tapped for 1/4" - 18 NPT. The one behind the distributor is 1/8" - 27 NPT.

Good tips from all Thanks for the info. The pictures are especially helpful. I'll look for that port over the filter. Thanks again.

Re: Oil Pressure Sender for Aftermarket Gauge

Thanks for the excellent response. I finally got back to this yesterday and, once I coaxed the plug out, it was relatively easy to install the sender. Not an easy place to work but, I have to believe, easier than the other site. Thanks again!
