Re: 531 mile highlander

NICE. But he needs to go the other way around, put the stock rims/tires under the truck and throw those hideous rims in the bed and retake pictures.

Ad description: "1972 Chevrolet C10 Highlander edition. Low mile Barn find. This truck has 531 actual miles and was found in Eau Claire WI in 2012. The original spark plugs, wires, oil filter, fuel pump, heater core, wheels and tires are all the bed of the pickup. I Have the original sales brochure, original title and misc paperwork in a binder. The fuel system has been drained and cleaned as well. The truck starts and runs great. Basically everything is original except the wheels and tires. The wooden bed still has the original black paint on all the boards. The left front of the bed has a rotten spot on the board from the rain/weather dripping on it over the years while sitting In the barn. The hood and roof have a few small imperfections from the weather as well. You can see that 90% of the original undercoating is still on the frame. Any questions feel free to ask. Possible trades."

Re: 531 mile highlander

I'd be a little Leary about 531 miles. The dash bezel has a lot of wear, especially at the light switch. Column rubber sleeve retainer looks well beat up too.
No engine pics, undercarriage. Nice looking truck, but I'd be suspicious.

Re: 531 mile highlander

With the far left zero & "5" on the odometer not straight I'd think it's gone over once. They usually stayed pretty straight across untill going over & no reason for the far left "0" to not be in line if only 530 miles on it.

Re: 531 mile highlander

So, what I noticed is that rain gutter sealant is not painted. Is that how it was done originally?

Re: 531 mile highlander

Definitely get rid of the custom wheels if you are selling a truck as a 531 mile survivor. A new set of 235/75-15 narrow whitewalls would have done the trick...for a lot less money. I see by the overspry on the oil filter some "toughing up" underneath has been done on the 90% original undercoated frame. If it really is the real deal it is quite the find. I wonder what circumstances occur when a nice new truck is bought then virtually unused for 44 years. I would have to know, and verify, that story before making a decision

Bingo
The first thing I look at is the bezel...always a give away and that one has seen some miles, use and occasional cleaning (hence the 'chrome' wear). I also agree on Panelman's other points as well.

Now...take the low mileage marketing angle off the table (because it is very, very unlikely)...and that is a really nice truck.
Looks well positioned to be in the $12-$15k zone in that condition.

My two bits.

Re: 531 mile highlander

I looked at the truck last Thursday. The documentation is badly water damaged ,as is the truck bed. The owner stored the truck outside under a tarp. Not an ideal way to preserve what is most certainly as advertised. There is a rust hole in the passenger door and the cab smells as musty as is possible. Only drive with the windows down musty. The green highlander seat looks brand new. I'm new to site, trying to post photos.. The under coating looks like it was put on yesterday. There are holes in the wooden bed from water damage.

Re: 531 mile highlander

I agree with Coley, truck is $10k high (by today's highly inflated standards) for such a survivor. There's no way that truck is as decent as it is sitting under tarps for over 40 years. This current owner is probably the only one who has left it out under tarps. If you're going to be an investor you need to have the proper place to store the investment or have your investment deteriorate. I believe the miles are plus 100k, by what has been mentioned by Panelman
