Installed a 2" lift on K20 and a few other things...
Well, the weather finally broke here in Northern Michigan, and I was able to remove the running boards off the new K20 and get a 2 inch Tuff Country lift installed this weekend. Next will be to finish the steel rims, blasting and painting and get the new shoes on it with hubcaps. Here are before and after pics:
Replaced the sandalwood steering wheel that was falling to pieces with this

Re: Installed a 2" lift on K20 and a few other things...
You know, I am not sure what to do. It is a 2 inch lift and I was thinking in my head that it would more or less just improve stance, but I got a full 3 inches out of it. I was not expecting that much lift. I already have new tires for it, old school 7.50 x 16 power kings, which are just shy of a 33 inch tire. I will just be hoping they don't look too small in the wheel well for now, I guess.

Re: Installed a 2" lift on K20 and a few other things...
Bought some urethane paint a couple weeks ago, had the wheels primed and waiting, but just couldn't get the overnight temps warm enough to paint as I don't have a booth, so I took the rims and paint to the body shop that has my cab for the shortbed and had him paint them. (On a side note, looks like that cab may be junk, he can't get it straight, appears to have been rolled at some point. Great.) The paint catalyst and thinner cost me $70, then the body shop charged me $100 to spray my paint. I took them to the tire shop yesterday, and watched them carelessly put the tires on and scratch the **** outta my freshly painted rims. The I came home and put my freshly refurbished hubcaps on and noted that they too take the paint off the rim. So, I am happy, but sure wish I had just went to the hardware store and bought a couple cans of white spray paint.

Looks perfect. Bummer about the SWB cab. I believe a usable cab in MI was recently listed on the parts board.

Re: Installed a 2" lift on K20 and a few other things...
It's hard finding a good tough paint that wont scratch just by looking at it. And even when you do a lot of prep goes into the surface so the paint bites well. Even a lot of powder coats scratch off way too easy for the cost. Pity.
Regardless, who doesn't love a new gauge cluster! And the truck and stance look good! It looks like the rear is sitting level. I too have a 2" Tough Country EZ suspension in mine but i had to add an additional inch spacer to the rear to level it out and an additional overload spring above the pack to help the squat when loaded.

Re: Installed a 2" lift on K20 and a few other things...
Big improvement! These trucks look so much better with stock rims in my opinion.
I feel your pain on the carelessness with which tire shops install. In some cases, they just don't have the equipment to do it correctly - so, not exactly the installer's fault. Since I pc most of my wheels, I have had to shop around to find someone with a no-toucha-da-rim tire machine, and most places do NOT have them. That's why certain tire shops are so popular, and people that don't care if their wheels are scratched go wherever and keep the rest in business. In the Fort Worth area, I had a nice set of rims practically destroyed by shrek on the 50's machine... So, started asking around - and Marco's Tire appears to be the ONLY place within about 50 miles (and I just quit looking) when heading up from south of Fort Worth. Anyway - my point is, it's hard to find a good shop, but then you can stick with it. Anyway - your truck looks great, perfect tire/wheel choice. |

Looks great. Has that early 4wd look sitting up a bit. Nice touch using the saddle car wheel of same era.
