Re: 72 Doors
There is no such thing as a perfect door panel, they all require some persuasion with a body hammer to make fit, if your not a body man i'd suggest you find one. There is some videos on youtube too.
Look for Tri Plus or Mar-K, or Possibly Tabco. As far as where we have a Vendor page go have a look and start calling

Re: 72 Doors
I wish there was a perfect solution, this is not bad. Working metal is like working wood, they are imperfect raw materials. In the hands of the right person they show the beautiful side once prepped and painted.

Re: 72 Doors
Old original doors are your best bet. They are worth whatever it takes to fix. These trucks were never fit together as nicely as people are doing with their restorations today.

Re: 72 Doors
I have to say I got a set of inner lower door patch panels from TABCO on the advice from other users. And I will never use them again. There is close to the OEM and even Better, but for ME these are way off, and truly lack the definition of the body lines. In some places the lines are just a small or large radius. This is my opinion but here a pic of the tabco and a OEM cut away. you decide for yourself, I only used the corners and the rest is garage.
The ones I got from GMCpauls are closer but still not an exact. The GMCPauls ones are still missing a lot of definition but at least have more definition than the tabco ones. I don't know why they cant get them better or chose not to. I only need to use the bottom of these patches as well. At least these from GMCPauls are flat on the bottom and not a huge radius like the tabco. Yes I realize I am picking them apart but I just really don't know why a lot of people are saying they are the best out there when others are closer to OEM for me the Cost to buy, shipping Costs and then the fuel to pick them up at My US post box,(I live in Canada) then I have to also have to pay DUTY and taxes on top. makes a 25$ part more like 75$...sorry I will ranting I just hate that I wastes a lot of money on poor advice of others. Again this Is only my option... and no it's not night and day but look at the bottom of the tabco and see the radius not even close to 90 deg bend there and the outer edges in one place I had to trim more than a inch off and the GMC Pauls outer edges are almost bang on. ok I done now |

Re: 72 Doors
The real tabco parts I have used fit awesome. Better than triplus or the other name. But they don't make every panel they sell.
The triplus door bottoms I used didn't fit well or look correct at all but I used so little of the panels it didn't matter. Ticked me off they didn't have drain holes but I made my own in them and they turned out great.

Re: 72 Doors
I am with special-k , nothing beats originals.. I bought patch panels and cutout the part I really needed and fitted it. I dont think any of the repo panels are that great thats why old stock gm parts are out of sight in pricing when you can find them

Re: 72 Doors
swamp rat.
I hope you took no offense, I truly meant none. I was only stating my experience with them and thought to share it. I have also heard good thing about the other you mentioned midniteblues "The real tabco parts I have used fit awesome. Better than triplus or the other name. But they don't make every panel they sell." Can you explain what you mean by this for me please. I don't want to bad mouth Tabco if it was at all my fault I ordered these right off there web page. How does someone insure your get what they make. Or are you saying that they make there own patch panels like cab corners themselves and outsource parts like Door inners bottoms. Is this more what you are trying to say? |
