AD transmission cover hump ideas

I have a 1950 truck. The transmission comes up pretty high. Need some ideas from you guys with pictures. This one won't work

I had a similar problem when I put an SM-465 in my '53. Make a cover out of heavy cardboard to the size you need and have a sheet metal shop duplicate it.

I have seen guys use a metal wheel barrow, trimmed to fit. On my TF I just made one out of sheet metal using a cardboard template to get the shape and vice, anvil and hand tools to channel by blacksmith great grandfather.

There you go, best answer of the bunch. You can Model it up with cardboard or stiff card stock and then use that to either make you own out of metal or take it to a sheet metal shop to have them make it.

Another idea might be to use the cardboard model as a mold and make your own out of fiberglass.

I agree with mr48chev, you can find a HVAC shop and they work all day in light tin, even if you sketch something VAGUELY close to what you need they can build it in a few minutes.

I recall that in your build thread and was hoping it would work out for you. The eBay one above is just to expensive for me for soothing that really doesn't fit.

Let me whip out my reference photos and links. I don't think making one would be too much effort, though I have been holding off an building one for mine. But, given what you've done so far I think this would be cake for you.

Also see one or two where they built the hump out of the side of a small barrel. There's also the option of taking your saws all to the local junkyard and cutting something up. I bet I could get out of Pick N Pull with a hump for just a few bucks.

Those reference photos are well worth saving for reference. Some good ideas to take and run with there.

When I took Gene Winfield's custom metal working class a few years ago he had the guys in the shop where he class was make an example of his "Winfield bender" it is simply different size pipes fastened together in a way that you can slip a sheet of metal in between the pipes and bend it by hand. If a guy looks around his place there is usually something that he can bend and shape smaller pieced of sheet metal with to fab something like a trans tunnel.

You could start with a 60-66 high hump floor section and modify it. If you build your own think about how it will be covered with carpet. The first one you showed wouldn't be very easy to cover, some of the rounded ones other people showed would look much better when carpeted.

I used some Elmers plastic craft cardboard stuff for my template then transferred it to light sheetmetal and got it bent into shape, its simple but effective and easy. Hopefully the pictures work being my first attempt at them.

What I did was to use strips of balsa covered in aluminum tape, then cover that in fiber glass and matting, did about 4 layers and core-mat,and after dry, remove the mold, and custom fit cover, just do in a well ventilated area with a mask....

I've been tackling my transmission tunnel. Here's a teaser, well actually, this is just as far as I've gotten. I got the base and a template for the tunnel made. I need to pick up somesheet metal to finish it off.

not the same year but i made my 69 into a 4x4 and i found that a mid 80s k5 blazer hump is pretty good for making mods to.

i cut about 4 inches out of the middle and shortened it it has a nice long flat part on it and you can just cut and fit where you need

If I had it to do over again, I think I may have done this differently. I may get a change to some day when I find the right T56.

Anyway, I used a combination of the ideas above. I didn't like the hard angles look, as nothing on these trucks has those lines. I wanted curves. I used a combination of cardboard templates, and I bent around my Welding gas bottle. Before that though, I bent a piece of tubing to form a nice hump over the top of the tranny, and give me something to weld to.
