Stock height 4x4 Duramax swap??

I've been kicking around the idea to do a Duramax/Allison swap in my V3500 for some time now. I've seen a few done, however I have not seen one done yet at stock height. I have no interest in lifting my truck, neither suspension nor body lift.

Is a lift required for hood clearance? Or is it just easier than building a new trans tunnel? Which I am not opposed to.

Nate

There should be plenty of room under the hood for the engine. Where you might run into trouble though is the transmission tunnel. I've got an NV5600 transmission in my Suburban and there is barely enough clearance for this transmission. The Allison is even larger.

Re: Stock height 4x4 Duramax swap??

I just checked a company called Duraburb that specializes in these conversions and they indeed add a small body lift (like the stock Duramax equipped truck) to provide clearance for the Allison tranny. If you're dead set on a Duramax and no body lift, you might look into a 4L80e tranny (like what was used in a Duramax van), a manual transmission, or creating a transmission tunnel which would be cool.
