Before bolting on your stock exhaust manifolds or headers, use a gasket as a template to make sure the top of the manifold or header port is as tall or taller than the port on the head. If not, do some grinding, because that's the last place you want to hinder exhaust flow, because velocity is much higher up there where the gasses are making a sharp turn.

Also, some header tubes may be very close the spark plugs on Vortec heads, since the plugs sit closer to the exhaust ports.

Pre-vortec OEM gasket on Vortec head. Your exhaust manifolds may also cover up the top of the port.



Fel-Pro gasket for 96-up Vortec engine.
