Can't find any 3/8 brake fittings for 1/4 line

Sigh........this is getting frustrating. I got the front 2 lines off the wheels done up to the t fitting using 1/4 line using 7/16 fittings. The top port of the same t fitting that goes to the mc has a 3/8 fitting size. I went to 3 parts stores to get a 3/8 fitting for 1/4 line and nobody has them. I can't find any thing online either. I'm about ready to go 3/16 all the way around because I'm not using adapters on every port that takes a 3/8. If anyone has a place to get the 3/8 fittings for 1/4 line please let me know.

Re: Can't find any 3/8 brake fittings for 1/4 line

When I did mine to a 67 MC I grabbed a pair of lines one 3/16 and one 1/4 from the junkyard. They fit the MC and the 3/16 I put to the Tee for the rear lines. I also bought some fittings at the auto supply store and can't remember exactly what I did. So the only thing I could suggest is head to the junk yard and check out the trucks because a lot of them seem to have both.

That adapter isn't an uncommon thing. I ran into the same thing with my truck and went the adapter route and I don't foresee any issues because of that. I wasn't able to fine a 3/8 nut for 1/4" line anywhere either.

Are you working on a 66? I believe 64 and 65 use 3/16 lines and they went to 1/4 in 66.

I have a 64 stepside. When I got the truck, someone had already put a early 70s booster, mc and prop valve on it for a disc/drum setup (I'm still on 4 wheel drum). Someone has already made a brake line repair in the rear so I figured I would replace all the lines. At this point I have a mc for a all drum set up and have removed the prop valve. There are SOOOO many opinions on what to run for line size (all 1/4 for drums, all 3/16 for drums). I want to do a front disc setup later on so I was told to do 3/16 front & 1/4 rear. Then someone said they have 3/16 all they way around with a disc/drum setup.

It's a 64.
Also what size line came out of the stk mc? Here is a pic of what I got that was coming off the prop valve and was going to the rear, I think its 1/4 that gets adapted down to 3/16. Was this factory on the 64 brake system that got moved or was this part of the early 70s brake system that was put on with the booster, mc & prop valve?

On each page listed here there are adapters:
For 3/8" fittings: http://store.fedhillusa.com/38fuelhy...ricannuts.aspx
For 3/16" fittings: http://store.fedhillusa.com/316475mm...elinenuts.aspx
For 1/4" fittings: http://store.fedhillusa.com/14americ...elinenuts.aspx
There is a page for technical information also, just use the right arrows below the box for explanations on brake lines for American vehicles:
http://store.fedhillusa.com/americanthreadpitch.aspx
Lots of good information on that site you can use to find fittings anywhere.

Re: Can't find any 3/8 brake fittings for 1/4 line

you will have to make up your lines with the different sizes. you should be able to buy the ends at any auto parts store. they are identifiable by he different colours. some are blue . some are red or green. The wheel ends will take the std ends while the prop valve or will take different ends> drum/drum m/c should take the std ends while the disc/drum may take different. adaptors are not the best thing to use in brake lines
Here is an example of the different size ends for the same size tubing in the link

Dorman (499-070.1) 1/4 x1/4 x1/4 inverted flair tee. I don't think there is a tube nut avl. in what you want.

These were the adapters I used, probably be the same as O'Reilly's once shipping is applied though.

As for the picture, my brakelines were all stock and I don't remember seeing any of them look like that one.

I will have to check tonight to see what size came off the master from the factory, the replacement is 1/4" but I don't know if that was right or not. I didn't use it since I'm running a Wilwood master.
