Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
Finally sold my 71 Cheyenne Super and used the money to buy my first blazer. It took me a while to pull the trigger but I ended up getting a 2WD CST in pretty nice original condition. I didn't steal it, but it had all the stuff on my wish list and I am happy with it. I was looking for a stock CST truck with an auto trans. Here are a few pics of my purchase. Has some rust on both rockers, the rear panels and passenger side fender cup. It is currently not running. My immediate plans are to get it road worthy and replace the current wheels with stock. After that I'll see what I have money for. I hope you enjoy the pics.

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
Thank you guys. I'm glad to be part of the blazer crew. Couple of questions.
Are blazer tailgates the same as truck tailgates? Does anyone have pictures of how the speaker is mounted. I have a nice am fm radio but there are no holes in the dash for one. I'm also looking at replacing the old gas tank. Should I go steel or poly? |

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
I wonder why GM just didn't put the speaker in the same place as trucks. Anyone know where the speaker is located in a suburban?

Some Blazers do have the speaker in the dash, others have it hanging under the dash

Some speakers are in the upper dash same as trucks but more often the dash is not stamped and they were mounted hanging under the dash. Probably to protect from getting wet if going topless. I would go steel tank so you can swap your original fill neck. It is the easiest way to get the filler to fit around the body mount. Do not throw out your old tank without removing the filler neck off of it first!! Just sweat out the solder and then remove the two nuts that hold it in place.

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
Best option is to get a rad shop to swap the fuel neck unless you are a soldering expert. Keep the old gas tank straps, the ones that come with the new tank kit are different. Same goes for the sending unit float, the repro ones have a high failure rate. Replace with the original or even better pick up a solid replacement https://www.summitracing.com/int/par...MobileSwitchNo

Re: Sold my 71 Super & bought a 71 2WD CST blazer
Thank you for the responses and really appreciate the information. The gas that is currently in the truck is very old. Originally I was planning on just removing the tank and having it cleaned but after inspection I noticed it is dented on two of the corners. Who makes the best fuel sending unit?

I would think all the repro senders are on the same level of quality. I haven't found any problems with them other than the floats.

It looks like a great original truck, congratulations. We don't see any like that in these parts!
Here are a few below-the-dash speaker pictures for you. |
